It's a defensive league and USHL coaches approach it like the NCAA: defense heavy/structure, which lends itself to older veterans. Plus, the league is mostly a NCAA prep league, thus all of these guys coming out of MN HS, HS-Prep, AAA at 18 or 19 years old leads to a much older league than the CHL leagues, so Reid gets the shaft. Good to see him getting an extended run in the OYea and i saw Engle and Mcrate 2007 dmen - both on hlinka cup having tough year in ushl both traded yesterday . I think especially for dmen ushl favors 19-20 year olds which is common sense . not that many 2007 dmen doing great
Truly incompetent by USAH that neither him or Nycz made the Hlinka roster. Reid didn’t even get invited to the camp. It's a defensive league and USHL coaches approach it like the NCAA: defense heavy/structure, which lends itself to older veterans. i was saying mcrate and engle both 2007 made it - unknowns- just got traded in ushl after looks like difficult starts with their teams . how Henry bruczieski( spelled wrong ) of london didnt make it - who was battling first round picks up there and will go either late first to late second round is more baffling . zero accoutabilityTruly incompetent by USAH that neither him or Nycz made the Hlinka roster. Did they have some Connelly-like issues to cause it as Connelly had his 16 year old year with USAH when they suspended him from roster consideration?
Yeah, it's truly wild none of those guys made it.i was saying mcrate and engle both 2007 made it - unknowns- just got traded in ushl after looks like difficult starts with their teams . how Henry bruczieski( spelled wrong ) of london didnt make it - who was battling first round picks up there and will go either late first to late second round is more baffling . zero accoutability
Assisted three of the four goals Soo scored in a 4-0 win. Has 9 points in 8 games. All three assists were basically hard point shots by him that resulted in scrambles around the net and goals (had 5 SOG and is 4th for OHL defensemen in SOG/G).
8 games, so let’s see if this can be sustained (almost certainly not to this level), but this is the company he’s in.
Scoring over 1PPG in D-1 (or younger) season for CHL defensemen since 2000:
Chase Reid
Landon DuPont
That’s it.
There’s only been four draft eligible defensemen seasons in the OHL since 2000 above what his current PPG is. The Q hasn’t even had a draft eligible defensemen at or above his PPG in that span, let alone a D-1. WHL has only had two draft eligible seasons of that in that span outside of DuPont (and one of them was 11 games of Zellweger).
And Reid isn’t 5’7. He’s 6’2 and an amazing skater. Starting to think he’s even better than I initially thought.
thats the huge benifit for usa kids to play in the chl going forward . if you have a great year in chl your draft stock will climb and dramatically more offense in chl over the ushl . none of the 2007 draftable dmen really doing anything in ushl .He will be considered as a first round pick by most scouting services for the 26 Draft.
I believe at a certain point I won't have to drive the hype train and it'll be a collective effort by everyone that follows the draft and NHL prospects.Pavel will appreciate this article...his coach certainly believes he will be a high pick next year....
Rookie Reid displays rare talent - Soo Greyhounds
“Being around such a great group of guys, from the coaching staff to the players, I couldn’t have asked for a better group to come into,” he said. “The guys here were so welcoming and the coaches have helped me so much. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to be.”chl.ca

Still unclear how long guys will play in the CHL before departing to the NCAA, but Reid has implied he'll be in the O for 2025-26Unsure how the new rules work or what the options are.. realistically how long is he playing in the Soo for?

Late bloomer for hockey due to the birthyear system, but he's probably older to middle aged for his Class of 2026 growing up in Michigan (not sure what the cut date is in Chesterfield), so he likely was nowhere close to being the youngest growing up. Definitely plays a factor in hockey though of course.December 30 birthday. Considered a Late bloomer likely because of the relative age effect at the youth level. Hockey is notorious for this because minor hockey is such a feedback loop.
