GDT: RATS FROM SPACE IN RALEIGH

Florida got contributions from lines 1-4 and there d man we got guys who shouldn’t even be in the lineup in this type of game

Morrow Roslovic both out to lunch
96 just can't be your 2C.....Fl's top 2C's outgun the Canes very easily.

Morrow, well, he is not an NHL ready defenseman, let alone the playoffs. To be fair of course is that he hasn't played in quite some time but that 3 on 2 that he made 1 2 on 1 should just never happen.

Kotkaniemi is my personal whipping boy.

Getting near 5m to do nothing Robinson or a Noesen couldn't easily replace.

I'd almost think Suzuki or Robidas could at least offer something.

Does Kotkaniemi even like hockey? Does he GAF? Seems like he's out there chasing butterflies and just happy to be a part of the team and invited to the dinners.

I haven't seen that dawg in him. More of a guinea pig for his spirit animal.

What's really disappointing is he admitted that he sucked last year and wanted to get better. Yet, instead of getting help with a scoring touch which he desperately needs (how many times does he whiff on open nets) it just seemed like he was relaxing all summer. Which, he has that right but we've all seen Svech stay late to work on his game, and I've been critical of Svech this season but he at least seems to GAF.

KK doesn't. It's likely why he usually ends up on the 4th line. It was a nice try but it's not working. He's never going to be anything more than what he is now. Time to cut the loss and move on.

Besides drawing the penalty in game 5 vs NJ has KK done anything of note these playoffs?

We'd be fortunate to find a buyer for him this summer. It's clear he's just not going to be anything more than an okay 3rd liner.
yeah, KK has been MIA.

As a 4C, he needs to bring energy, use his size & hit, hit, hit. He did zip but to be fair 24 was MIA tonight too. He seems to be in a slump since Wash. series (empty net notwithstanding). Hitting the 4 Nations wall?

Thank God Brindy went with the good ol NA kid instead of the Russian super prospect. Could you imagine if Nikishin had a bad game?

Thankfully, we avoided that landmine

I don’t even blame Morrow. He was straight ass, but he had no business even being out there.

That falls 100% on Rod. Just a mind numbingly stupid decision to throw Morrow to the wolves out there … and pair him with Ghost, no less.
Stupid f***ing decision from Brindy that absolutely should be a major talking point going into the next game.

How the f*** do you screw it up that bad with the lineup. Seriously, what the f***?

It's f***ing borderline xenophobic that he went with Morrow tonight instead of Nikishin, who didn't look bad the last game. Morrow got his ass caved in, Nikishin looked like he belonged. What the f***

Yep. And I totally get the why of doing it but that's two ideas that can not happen again. Morrow needs at least another year in the A and putting him with Ghost is setting them up for failure. And I even thought that Ghost had a solid game, but f***ing -3 and the PP for DoG completely uncontested making it an effective -4 says it all.

Have to play Nikishin next game, at the very least even if he gets caved as well he can put a hurt on some fools.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player that bad on this chart. I’m no advanced stats guy but the eye test certainly backs up how terrible this makes him look.

Haha he just wants him to get a game in so if we win a cup he gets his name on it… Jost is next after Roslovics terrible performance… I how Janky is better soon

We’re going to have to recalibrate. Compared to the last 2 series, Florida has better goaltending, and closes way faster on the forecheck and in the D-zone. But also, Gostisbehere-Morrow should never ever ever be a thing again. They got absolutely clowned all game long.

I actually thought about that this afternoon and looked it up, the rule to automatically get on the cup (if someone didn't play half the regular season) is to play one game in the stanley cup final. So, no guarantee for morrow (or nikishin) yet.

But maybe a game in the playoffs helps if the team petitions to add a player that doesn't meet the automatic requirements?

For a team that prides itself n defensive play it's absolutely damning to have a player that bad inserted into the lineup.

Nikishin wasn't perfect but he wasn't.... Well he wasn't THAT. Give me the Russian every day of the f***ing week if the alternative is Morrow looking that pile of ass

Panthers didn't really do anything on offense all night. They picked corners on all their good chances. I don't know if that's good because when the Canes/Freddie settle down the game will be much more competitive, or bad because the Panthers have an extra gear they didn't need at all tonight.

The worst was Bennett's goal, because that goal was peak Hurricanes- point shot from a forward who can't even see the goal through all the traffic that somehow gets through 5 people, after the Canes had neutered that particular PP to potentially keep it a Hail Mary comeback away

Has to be the final eh… did not know that… I’m pretty sure we petitioned the league last time we won to get someone on the cup… pretty sure it was The legendary Anton Babchuk…

Just checked, his name is definitely on the cup and I’m pretty sure he didn’t get half a season… I think it was a game or two shy and that’s why they petitioned…. But I might be speaking out my ass

Typical NHL coach: picked an NA player instead of Russian one, the player looked terrible, and still played more, than Russian one in his only game, where he looked not as terrible...

it has nothing to do with NA versus RU but rather simply a RD replacement with someone who has played with the team or the system in Chicago all year. Please note that RBA plays Orlov and Svetch heavily and doesn't favor NA players over them.

Plus, he sees the practices and perhaps felt it was still too early for Nikishin to play.

FWIW: most of us believe RBA made a lineup mistake tonight but to be fair, the defense with 4LD's w/ Nikishin was having issues in DC the other night too.

Don't let your time zone cloud your view on how the Canes/RBA manage their player pool. RBA is a very fair coach.

Well, that was the most frustrating game in the playoffs for me to watch this year as a Hurricanes fan. Next game is a must win. We can't lose our two home games before going on the road.

Yeah, I'm gonna chime in with the chorus of people that are tired of the lack of a good 2C. Roslovic isn't a centerman, and keeping KK down on the 4th line during yet another season with him making almost 5 million a year? Enough with trying to square a hole with this 2C bullshit. We haven't had a legit 2C since Trocheck several years ago.

Ideally, assuming they might be available, we get Thompson/Horvat/Benett/EP40 (or perhaps someone else that's good and will be available) as our 2C, and get Dobson for our #1 RHD. We finally improve our top 6 center depth for years to come, and we get a long term really good defensive partner for Slavin on the 1st pairing who will also fit in well on the power play with his offensive skills.
