Middleton for Hodge was worse

No question this is correct. We've had discussions about this many times on different threads here on our board. But the Middleton for Hodge one is by all measurements the worst deal Ranger management ever made.

What's interesting about that deal and I've done alot of research over the year about the Rangers. Not sure any of you younger fans will recall this name. But Rangers had a guy named Derek Sanderson who we got from Boston in a deal back in mid -70's. Anyways, Sanderson was like a cross between Joe Namath and Warren Beatty as far as partying, womanizing, gambling...the works. The guy was a total party animal.

Anyways, apparently Sanderson took Middelton under his wing during Middelton's rookie year with us and he had a real good season. But he too started partying too much. Supposedly Emile Francis told Middelton to stay away from Sanderson otherwise shit would go down. Well Sanderson and Middleton still hung out with one another and than the horrific deal that will go down infamy as worst deal in Ranger history went down.

So had Middleton not been influenced so much by Sanderson, that deal never happens and who knows what a Middelton on those really good fast Ranger "smurf" teams in the early 80's could have done....hmmmm....we'll never know...dangit...
