Rate your Islander Defenseman..

A. Elite Defenseman - Should remain on Islanders for career

B. Good Defenseman - Solid D'man should remain on the team 3 - 5 years

C. Average D'man - Mediocre D'man just getting by, possible collecting a paycheck and no drive to be a Champion or playoff contender but isn't so bad. Year to year contract until prospects could challenge for roster spot.

D. Horrible Defenseman, wouldn't make the roster on any other team but Islanders.. Needs to be gone immediately.

A: None
B: Hamonic, Visnovsky
C: MacDonald, Strait, Hickey, Donovan
D: Martinek, Ness, Carkner

People constantly bash MacDonald, but hes okay as a 3rd pairing Dman. If the Islanders signed me and played me 30 minutes a night, i'd go out there and give it my best, bleed for them....but holy **** would I suck....is that my fault they put me out there? no, its coaching and managements fault.

this is perfect and exactly how I see it as well...Hopefully someday we can fill the "A" category with Reinhart and/or Pulock...

The way I say it is Hamonic is a #3-4 dman as is Viz(right now anyway) AMAC and Hickey are #5-6 Dman and the rest are not ranked
...
Donovan is a question mark but I don't see him being any higher that a #4 dman...

I voted based on wanting upgrades, not necessarily just wanting them off the club and say, filled in by rookies barely able to shave. Because the odds against those players being lights out from the start are HUGE.

Carkner, Amac, and Aness. I want upgrades in these positions.

Martinek is done and simply needs to go, and all the people who gave me flak for saying that when they brought him on need to own it. :P

Defensemen - (eventual ceiling/what they've shown so far)
Hamonic - (#2/#3)
Hickey - (#4/#4)
Amac - (#4/#7)
Carkner - (#7/AHL)
Donovan - (#3/AHL)
ANess - (#7/#6)
Vis - (#3/IR)
Strait - (#7/IR)

This is the worst blueline in the NHL. And even when everyone is healthy it is too small, even if everyone played a level above their ceiling, they give the games away to bigger, physical teams before the puck even drops just because of the lack of size and toughness.

A. Elite Defenseman - Hamonic, clearly not elite but glad to have him...

B. Good Defenseman - Visnovsky

C. Average D'man - MacDonald, Hickey*, Donovan*

D. Horrible Defenseman - Martinek, Carkner, Ness, Strait

*Donovan & Hickey have the potential to be a B.

Ya, it's a good thing Strait's on IR. No way he could help this defense.:sarcasm:

To be fair Strait sucked since the injury last year.

But for some reason the Legend of Strait has persisted long after his average game showed itself. He is another bottom pairing guy in an already overloaded toilet of bottom pairing defensemen.

Even when they are all healthy our defense is still below average.

Donovan, Carkner, Martinek, Ness need to go!

which leaves us with Strait, Visnovsky, MacDonald, Hamonic, Hickey.

You play the first 4 of them, and keep Hickey as reserve for injuries and special situations. We add ONE GOOD DEFENSEMAN FROM FREE AGENCY and bring up a good young player (Reinhart)

so these would be the hypothetical lines, which would be a legit good NHL defensive squad:

Phaneuf/Girardi/Ericsson/Pitkanen (UFA) - Hamonic
Visnovsky - Reinhart
MacDonald - Strait

Sorry to tell you but Hickey is not very good. The Islanders don't need an undersized soft pylon on the ice. I rather sign a case of cones than sign Hickey long term on the Islanders.

Hickey is fine as a 7th defenseman who comes up when another key guy is injured or not ready to play. If he plays 25-30 games in the season it's perfectly fine

So instead of keeping a Dman that creates offense, and plays solid positionally sound D in Hickey you want to keep a giant non-physical pylon that creates absolutely no offense in Carkner? Do I have that correct? If so I think it would be a good idea for you to mention at the end of each of your posts that you are actually a parody.

I rather have Carkner than Hickey, yes you're correct. I like guys that play D not guys like Hickey that play soft like girls. Also, Hickey has 4 points this year so far. But, If I were the GM in the next offseason I would clean house for our entire D and ONLY keep Hamonic and Viz...

You are 100% correct with that

Ugh! You were so close to a good post! Definitely should have stopped while you were ahead.

If you want too keep rolling with guys that are part of the problem, and not the solution then so be it.

Posters like you will never get it. Hickey would barely be able to make the roster of a good team.

And when someone hands you a shovel, do us all a favor and put it down.

Amac just sunk to a new level tonight. He made my AHL list with some of the weakest shifts I have ever seen. You guys complaining about Hickey... Really, I think you are missing the biggest problem right in front of your eyes if you think Amac isn't a certifiable disaster.

And the numbskull who keeps giving him 30 minutes a night like he is Chris Pronger... HA!

Amac is a certifiable disaster, but Hickey is not that far behind. They both need to go.
