Rate Staios SO Far

Fabbro is no better than in house options and far more expensive. Also, easy to say when Perron has basically not played because of an unpredictable life event.

Well either way point is we should have kept Joseph not signed perron and try to get fabbro.
Neither of those moves are particularly good, swap out a 6/7 Dman for a (slightly better?) overpaid 6/7 dman made worse by the fact you have to buy out the first one...

Joseph in for Perron is at least cheaper so some benefit, but Perron imo is a better player and has more edge to his game. I get not wanting to pay a third to dump Joseph though, I'd have just rode out the contract but I suspect they really wanted him out for some reason.

It is too early to tell if the acquisition of Perron was a good move by Staios. So far his 5 game stats say "no"!

ES GF/60. GA/60. NET
1.1. 4.3. -3.2

I miss Joseph's speed. I think the lack of speed in Perron and Amadio shows.

He also had some of the best xGF Numbers on the team, at 5v5

3.3 xGF/60
1.81 xGA/60
64.6% xGF

Either way it's a small sample, but with small samples the advanced stats tend to be more predictive.

Just want to say how enlightening it is to see what happens to an organization when every set of eyes for the team is focused on winning and improving the setting for the players instead of gaslighting and bullshitting

Before Andlauer got here we had some people doing their best (ie Trent Mann) but generally it was a leadership group just trying to stay in the jobs they had that they didn’t deserve who’s opinion was winning was something the refs and the bouncing puck determined.

Just crazy how far we’ve come in 1 year and how far we were away 1 year ago.

A+

Amadio, Perron, Ullmark, Zetterlund, and Gaudette were all great moves.

Plus he hired Green, who has completely turned the team around, and has got them playing tight disciplined defensive hockey.

I like most of his moves but hated the Chychrun trade when it was made and hate it even more today. Jensen was nowhere near fair value for a player like Chychrun.

I also didn't like drafting Yakemchuk with Parekh, Buium and Dickinson all still available. I hope to be proven wrong but I strongly believe that those three players will all have better careers than Yak.

He made some good moves, the team certainly improved & they played better, but never fixed the 4th line & until Zetterlund turns into more than a 3rd liner, I don't get that move when we clearly needed a 4th line C.

The best is yet to come!
B+ , taking into account with what he inherited and had to change.

From a pro scouting perspective, I think Ullmark, Perron, Jensen and Amadio all played a big role in getting the Senators into the playoffs, so that was definitely an improvement over Dorion.

The Zetterlund/Cozens move was creative and bold but I think only time will tell on that one.

We'll see about the draft situation as it is still very premature.

I think I'd give him an A-.

Solid B.

The good:
-Made the best out of a shit situation with Norris and got a player who is more available in Cousins while getting a 2nd
-Found a player who is a great partner for Chabot in Jensen
-Amadio signing is looking like a homerun
-Green hire is looking good
-Upgrading Korpse to Ullmark was a steal
-Trading Ostapchuk, Gregor and a 2nd for Zetterlund is a good gamble
-Cousins signing was great

Not so good:
-We're an asset poor team, and he paid to move Joseph
-Perron, despite his decent playoffs, is too slow for this team and was an overpay
-Jensen was a great acquisition, but getting just a 3rd along with him was not so good. Chychrun on paper is younger and better, a haul of quantity would've been nice.
-Signing Ullmark without him playing a game isn't looking so good
-Not doing much to revamp our scouting given the types of players they selected in the last draft is annoying.

His moves got us into the playoffs, but the moves involved ripping off a band-aid, and it stings. We're asset poor, not a popular FA destination, and don't have much in the ELC pipeline to fill our holes. We have to rely more on Norris-Cozens, Ostapchuk-Zetterlund, Chychrun-Jensen, type swaps and hope they work.

Compare to Dorion, its an A++ lol

With Giroux's $6.5 million coming off the board it will be interesting to see what he does. Greatest needs are a 1st line RW and a top 4 physical Dman. He might sign a free agent combined with some trades but I do see some major changes to the team.

The Batherson situation could push Staois to re-sign Giroux if the org feels the need to move on from the situation & I doubt they want to lose their two top RWs.

I think he’s the best GM weve ever had. I wanted a hard, fast, close group and he’s done that.

Who doesn’t love this team and group of players. My fav since Alfie/Hossa/Chara days but I’m not all hung uo if they are tough enough. They are tough enoguh, just need more experience and some tweaks here and there and we could win a Cup and be proud of how they play.

This Staois team over the next 2-3 will go down as the best Sens team ever assembled IMO

I didn't love the return for Chychrun but we were screwed. We couldn't sign him to 9M long term. There probably weren't many other teams that could do it either. So you take the best offer on the table. All things considered, getting Jensen wasn't so bad.

Staios projects respectability and professionalism. I get the feeling that when he reaches out to players around the league, we actually have a chance because of who he is.

I feel like our professional scouting has improved by leaps and bounds. The amateur scouting, remains unchanged, and has not had much success/if any since the 2020 draft.

What do you mean Batherson situation?

If you’re referring to HC trial and him being a witness that shouldn’t affect any organization decisions. Batherson is entering his prime playing years and unfortunately Giroux is past them.

Not much has happened.

Travis Green: I have no idea. TBD.

Korpisalo: A+

Chychrun: Hard to think they couldn't have gotten something better if they traded him last season at some point. B-

Draft: I have no clue. TBD.

Getting rid of Joseph, Kastelic, Kelly, Brannstrom etc: B+.

Still not much to go on overall. Staois was left in a terrible situation and I don't see how he could've done significantly better.
“terrible situation” ?

A team that already has Tkachuk, Stutzle, Sanderson, Batherson, Chabot, Zub, Pinto, Greig, Norris & Kleven is not in a “Terrible Situation”!

Staois evaluation of the league today and how much it’s changed in the last 2 seasons is as big a change and his pivote to a meaner, bigger, hungrier team is my biggest reason for confidence
Where is the “meaner” and “bigger”?

I was a huge Chychrun fan when he got here but his play last year was baffling. A physical specimen that shied away from contact who consistently made mind numbing decisions in his own end with or without the puck. Maybe JC was tormented by the many vegans on the team but it was obvious his heart and mind weren't into playing with the Sens.
Our coach did not use him properly. He was not happy playing for a clown masquerading as an NHL coach.

Financially the team was very limited.
"Financially" seems to be a reference to the owner's capacity to pay the cap ceiling salaries.

Staios did find the budget dollars to sign Perron, Amadio, Pinto, Cousins, Gaudette, Ullmark.

He could have inherited a club with no legitimate NHL players, such as the 1st year Senators. That would have been a "terrible situation".

I would rather use the Giroux $6.5M dollars plus some of the cap increase dollars to sign either a top line winger to play with Stutzle or a top RD to replace Jensen & Hamonic.

I don't think Giroux is worth more than $2M to us because of our need for higher end players.
