Since the beginning of next season is far away, why not do a PGT for the off season moves Bergevin just did. Most likely than not, he is done for the summer. So how do you rate his work ?

In summary :

- Traded Eller for 2 second round picks
- Acquired Shaw for 2 second round picks
- Signed Shaw for 3.9 M$/year for 6 years
- Traded Subban for Weber
- Signed Radulov for 1 year at 5.75 M$
- Signed Montoya
- Signed Kirk Muller as assistant coach

All in all, I would say that is a solid A-.

He addressed :

- the need to have a top 6 winger
- signed an upgrade for the back-up position to Price
- traded what was perceived as a problem in the locker room for proven leadership
- traded a center to clear the log jam that was the position
- signed a 2 time Stanley Cup winner and middle 6 winger in Shaw

What is your take on this ?

B+/A-, the team is harder to play against, has more scoring, addressed some needs like a better back-up & protection for Price. He didn't handcuff the team with long term contracts although we were lucky with Lucic. The team is better than it was a week ago.

Very true, Weber and Shaw add grit and physicality that was lacking. Don't really know about Radulov but is he like Ovechkin a little or is he purely finess ?

Can't really say, I have barely seen Radulov play to be honest. He had 17 hits in 2007-08. So I would be inclined to say no

Everything was great but Subban for Weber is a tough one to swallow. We'll have to wait and see on that one.

I hope we can trade DD or Emelin too and shore up the D. That would be ideal.

As of now, somewhere in the A- to B area.

Signing Radulov to this contract: B+
Getting two second round picks for Eller: B+
Getting Shaw for two second round picks: B
Signing Shaw to this contract: C+
Signing Montoya to this contract: C+
Trading Weber for Subban: C

Overall, It's a B-. Average offseason. Changed the face of this team while I dont think it was necessary.

Like the Eller trade. Frees up 3.5M$

Do not like trading for Shaw for 2 2nd and give him 6 yr/3.9M$

Hate Subban for Weber

Love Radulov signing

Not sure about Montoya.

Hate that DD is still with us.

So let's say C- since I hate the Subban trade so much.

What more did you expect for Eller? I mean, Shaw trade aside because you separated the two. I don't see Eller getting much more than that at any period. He's a 3rd line C afterall.

Im giving an A-, but if the Subban trade goes wrong (as some are predicting). It could easily become a D.

The draft should have gone like that:
1st: 9. Mikhail Sergachev (D) 6'2
*3rd: 62. Markus Niemelainen (D) 6'6
5th: 124. Tim Gettinger (W) 6'6
6th: 160. Jesper Bratt (W) 5'10
*7th: 182. Stepan Falkovsky (D) 6'7
7th: 187. David Bernhardt (D) 6'3
Trade: 3rd (70) + 4th (100) for Toronto 4th (62) + 7th (182)

Nobody knows how the Subban trade will work out, but i'm willing to give it solid chance. I see what they're trying to do. Love all of the other moves.

I'm giving MB a B+ just for showing that he has a pair of Balls.

F
only liked the eller trade and radulov signing
the Subban trade will be remembered as the worst trade of the 21th century for the Canadiens
quote me in 10 years

B+ is pretty damn good. A would be a total rip off, like the McDonagh trade for exemple. Eller for 2nd isnt a ripoff, most of the players taken in the 2nd round don't become very effective anyway.

Getting rid of Eller and replacing him with Shaw was bad.

Weber for Subban is the worst trade since Roy.

Radulov was a good risk to take but he's a wildcard.

All and all, a horrific offseason. Radulov will have to have a very good year for us to go anywhere. And that's esp true now more than ever for Carey Price.

B-. It's not that I hate the Subban/Weber deal, but Weber is something of a square peg that has to fit in a round hole on our D.

But I liked every other move to a certain extent.

If the goal is to make the playoffs, B based mostly off the Radulov signing which is the only move that directly addressed an important area of need.

Long term cup aspirations, D. The team will be lucky if Weber-Subban is a lateral move in the short run, long term it's a huge loss. Shaw is getting vastly overrated by people hoping to see Gallagher lite, and lost in his trade+signing is the fact the Habs now have David Desharnais as their third line center should they make the playoffs, as opposed to Lars Eller. That's a large downgrade.

Your forgetting this move ,KIRK MULLER which is AAA+++

http://www.hockeyinsideout.com/news/canadiens-hire-kirk-muller-as-associate-coach

When asked if he thinks Muller’s title of associate coach with the Canadiens will put more heat on head coach Michel Therrien after the team missed the playoffs this season, Carbonneau said: “I don’t think it’s heat … I think it’s normal. He’s that good. He had a chance to be a head coach … it didn’t work for him. But I know what he can do in the room with the players. He understands the game, how it works. If you want to retain services of somebody that can do all those things you have to do that.

“It’s good for him,” Carbonneau added. “He enjoyed his time when he was here with me and I think he has a daughter that goes to McGill and he’s close to home (in Kingston, Ont.). I think he’s a good fit. I know what he can do. He’s good with the guys in the room and keeping the team together. I wish him a lot of success.
