Rasmus Ristolainen has a chance to do something in his 12 NHL season that he has not done in his prior 11.

He's injured since the genius Briere failed to trade him at the trade deadline and with his history, the likelihood of him playing another game this season is rapidly approaching zero.
 
That's a crazy stat until you realize he was a big reason why those teams never had a positive goal differential.

That not untrue, but it's not exactly his fault he happened to be the best defenseman (or at least the coach seemed to think so judging by the way he was used...) among a bad defense.

If he had spent his career as a 2nd or 3rd pairing guy and been brought up in a way that makes sense for most young defenders, we'd probably not be having this discussion.

He's very athletic and has the size and raw tools to be a #1D, but in hindsight he was probably never going to be one and certainly not being "developed" the way he was in Buffalo.
