Straight up or with a minor tweak

Anaheim badly needs to take a step next season and their RD depth is Gudas and Trouba, neither of whom are suited for 20+ minutes anymore, and then 2nd year player Drew Helleson and 21 year old Tristan Luneau. Flames need more talented young forwards. Neither are coming off particularly good years and will be looking for new contracts come 2026. Fresh start might do Zegras some good in the maturity aspect and Ras gets to go to sunny California to a team with lots of young and upcoming talent.

Could see Zegras and Coronato finding some chemistry.

Flame (or Duck) away

Don't know if it happens, don't know if I want it to happen, but an established RD is the only piece that trading Zegras makes sense for.

Given Andersson's age and contract situation, the Flames would need to add. Mews would make sense, a RD prospect to go with the established one, and he looks like a flight risk for Calgary anyways. Maybe a 2nd or 3rd on top of that.

That being said, even if it were 1 for 1 I wouldn't do it. I have never been a fan of Zegras' game and he would absolutely die trying to play Flames style hockey. If the Flames tried to build around a centre core of Zegras, Frost, and Zary; I'm certain it would be a failure to launch.

Nah. Don't care much for Zegras as a player, and he just seems like a guy who would dip on this organization/city at first chance. We don't fit his vibe.

If they want to trade from a position of strength (LD) to address RD, I'd be interested in Minty or Zellweger.

Too bad Tortorella and Kuzmenko didn't stick around. Watching him try to coach Zegras, Michkov, and Kuzmenko at the same time would be very funny. Torts would probably have an aneurysm.
Yes, well the Philly fit is much better now for Zegras with Torts gone. I would imagine he could light it up with Michkov on his wing.

I don't know, maybe. Half the league are "centers" that only play on the wing though.

In his case though, his splits at C vs LW are pretty clear the last two years. He still paced at around 55-60 points in games where he played C, and around 20 points at LW. It was only in his last 30 or so games this year that he started producing at LW.

If you want a winger, don't bother. If you want a C, then he's done okay. But it'd be strange to say he sucks as a winger so you don't want him as a center.

And none of his detractors have explained away:
record w/o Zegras last two seasons... .324 and .420
record w Zegras last two seasons ... .419 and .518

Too big a sample size to be random.

On the one hand it's two guys that fans always swear are going to get a much bigger return than they actually will. On the other, I hate the fit for both teams

Zegras to the flames window has passed. It was better last year when there was more time before he needs a new contract.

It was good "try before you buy" situation, but thats gone now.

Flames can get more of a guaranteed return/consistent player for andersson. So this is now a bad deal.
