I've always been high on Andersson. Like, even when we drafted him, he was a guy who was playing close to 30 minutes a game in the CHL, relied on in all situations, and never looked out of place. And that was with him being relatively out of shape (for a hockey player, not in general). That whole "pull yourself together or you're not getting a shot in the NHL) bit his second/third camp really drove it home, and he's been a bit of a stud ever since.I always feel vindicated when I think of Razzy.
I went to, either his D+1 or D+2 rookie showcase scrimmage at WinSport; and even then the guy was clearly the best defender on the ice. At that time I compared him to Keith in terms of how he handled the game. He's settled to never being that offensive guy, but man, a complete D for sure.
Calgary needs to get healthy and they'll start cooking again with that backend leading the charge.
The car that hit him is doing well, but its going to the autobody shop for frame straightening.good season so far?
Yeah Andy’s a stud. Skates well, moves the puck well, good passer from the point. His biggest weaknesses is that his slapper isn’t very accurate and he can have brain farts sometimes defensively but he’s still a rock solid D-man who’s just gotten better and betterAs an Oiler fan , I really like Andersson . Everyone's bitchin about what dman the Oilers need. An Andersson clone would be ideal.
Makes me think of prison. The thread name still makes me think of acne.
Agreed. Having Weegar and Andersson would be a nice foundation block for the Flames defence.Best trade chip but also playing like wants to be the next captain. They should re-sign him if they can.
I love Andersson. However my biggest problem with resigning him is that he'll be 29 in four days... which means for the first year of his new contract he'll be 30. This is not the age group we should be filling in our rebuild.Best trade chip but also playing like wants to be the next captain. They should re-sign him if they can.
I love Andersson but I think this is probably the right move.I love Andersson. However my biggest problem with resigning him is that he'll be 29 in four days... which means for the first year of his new contract he'll be 30. This is not the age group we should be filling in our rebuild.
Trade him.
Well considering he is still under contract for 2 years and his next contract will almost double his AAV at likely max term, your suggestion is we keep him for 2-3 out of 8 good years left? Seems like flawed logicThis is the guy you keep around. He’s hitting his prime now and the cap will go up so you won’t even feel it if it has to come to a buyout. He still has at least 4-5 good years left.
I was just pointing out the flaws in his statement. I think Ras will still be a good player into his mid 30's before falling off.I don't know why we're talking about Ras only having 4-5 good years left. He's still showing improvement, as a guy that isn't overly physical and his flaws being more on the defensive side, there is no reason to think he can't keep growing and evolving his defensive game and be a good player into him mid-30s. Also it's not a forgone conclusion that his contract will be for 8 years, Lindell and Theodore took 5 and 7 years respectively.
I love Weegar but saying he's one of the best defensive defensemen in the league is objectively laughable.I was just pointing out the flaws in his statement. I think Ras will still be a good player into his mid 30's before falling off.
You are right that he could end up taking a 7 year deal like Theodore but Lindell has a career high of 32 points and that was 7 years ago. Unless you are one of the best defensive dmen in the league like Weegar, Toews, or Slavin, you just don't get those big 7-8 year deals in your 30's anymore (teams are really hesitant on this after Seabrook and Vlasic).
How? He's statistically been one of the best shutdown dmen 4 out of the last 5 seasons?I love Weegar but saying he's one of the best defensive defensemen in the league is objectively laughable.
