Value of: Rantanen with an 8 year extension

If he's being dealt with an 8 year deal it's to a specific team, or a small amount of teams, so the actual value is hard to gauge.

However, someone on the Habs board when discussing Rantanen as a free agent brought up his numbers when MacKinnon is out and the sample size is somewhat small at around 50 games, it works out to a player getting mid 80s for points.

Could be something that worries teams. Could be nothing they even bother to look at.

What do you think the value of Rantanen would be if traded with an 8 year contract extension? Maybe something similar to what Tkachuk got?
As long as he's acquired prior to the deadline the acquiring team can sign him to an 8 year deal post trade. There is no value difference between whether he comes signed or not.

Ah yeah, sorry I was thinknig UFA for UFA and assuming he'd leave/try to sign him. A signed Rantanen. Wayyyyyy more than Boeser.

I guess assuming Rantanen is willing to sign an 8 year deal with the intention of being traded to Vancouver, I think it would have to be EP40 and Boeser to get it done, then the Canes gamble on re-signing Boeser.
Maybe he comes back with a signed Boeser.

Both teams walk a way happy.

Canes get a goal scorer
Canucks gets Rantanen.

We add a bit of future and bam everyone happy.

If he already has an 8-year contract, say $15M AAV, say with full NMC and some crazy signing bonuses... then trading him is going to be a landmine. I don't think you can even realistically talk about trading him if he has already signed an extension?

I think talking to his agent / agreeing to terms and then sign and trade to proper team.

La KIngs are not on his list btw. Won't sign there

Kind of nuts

What is Boesers expected AAV? Were talking about a 100 pt guy and a 50-60 pt guy here. Its not really close at all.

The contract would be agreed upon in principle with the team receiving him; the deal wouldnt be signed by Carolina to their terms and then look to move him

The only sign and trade in NHL history is Matthew Tkachuk and the contract he got was what Florida wanted , albeit Calgary signed it for the eighth year

7.5 over 7 years?

I mean you are right but I am trying to get the Canes a winger.
EP40 might do it given the Canes will be upset about losing a $10m+ guy and might take on that contract, but Rantanen is still more valuable than EP40 if signed at whatever for 8 years. So would have to add on a UFA Boeser to make it happen.

That leaves the Canucks with Hughes and Rantanen only. Pretty meh.

Yeah, I just read that he wouldn’t re-sign if traded to the Kings. That leaves the Kings out of the discussion. Saving Blake from himself.

Carolina took a huge risk and it backfired

No team is going to give top flight young players for a pending ufa to bail them out

I would say the jury is still out on whether it has backfired for Carolina or not. It was a high-risk move to trade for him, but the sample size on his play so far is too small to draw any conclusions. If he goes on a tear in the playoffs on the way to Carolina winning a cup, we’ll all think that Carolina trading for Rantanen was brilliant. While Carolina winning the cup is looking unlikely right about now, the beauty of the playoffs is that just about the only thing you can nearly guarantee about the playoffs is that something you don’t expect will happen. It’s not necessarily always the cup winner being a team that no one expected, though that occasionally happens too.

I think it's that the Canes traded for Rants.

Kings are out of the bidding war. So it's probably limited so Canucks wouldn't be looking at paying 100%

I'm a pens fan first Canucks second but I'm like trading 2 wingers. Canucks throw a 1st in the deal?

Soucy is getting interest maybe throw him in for D?

If they could sign him...
They would not trade him.

Why the F do we have people every year who think a guy who is going to be the marquee free agent of the season would somehow forego that position and allow a team he has no intention of signing with sign him and decide where he will spend the next 8 seasons so that they would get a good return?
