What do you think the value of Rantanen would be if traded with an 8 year contract extension? Maybe something similar to what Tkachuk got?
Huge but he’s most likely waiting until July 1st.
Tkachuk was younger and had an RFA year left.
I'll say the standard for a top line player, 1st round pick and a good prospect
I was assuming this topic was a trade deadline type of thing if carolina cant get him signed, off season maybe a 2nd or third. You think somebody would pay a 1st round pick for a sign and trade in the summer?
I don’t think he is waiting for July 1st
As the 8th year disappears entirely for him with anyone

So? 7x15 > 8x13.
and?
Why risk it, you can guarantee he would get 15 AAV?
show me that guarantee
If I'm him, I do not involve Carolina in this process even a little. What do you think the value of Rantanen would be if traded with an 8 year contract extension? Maybe something similar to what Tkachuk got?
>doesn't sign an extension with perennial cup contender Colorado
>doesn't sign an extension with perennial cup contender Carolina
but yes, he is gonna sign one with your team, whomever they are, with no time to negotiate + forgo a UFA market where he is likely to get $15m+.
Rantanen is in the mercenary stage of his career and he is going to the highest bidder in July
This is a good take. If he was really caught off guard by the trade, and wanted to stay in Colorado, Carolina might be somewhere he has no interest in.If I'm him, I do not involve Carolina in this process even a little.
He owes them nothing.
His last deal was for 6 years in COL. Completely ignored the 8 and even 7 there. His agent obviously plays hardball.I don’t think he is waiting for July 1st

Can you guarantee he won't? Why risk leaving money on the table?

Production and advanced stats from the previous 9 years in times without MacKinnon and Makar would disagree with youHe’s honestly not that good without MacK and Makar. I don’t think teams are willing to pay a premium for him after watching him stink it up in Carolina
