It’s a fantastic balance. Top line has its play driver in THE play driver in Mack. A strong power forward in Nuke. And a guy that can pass and finish decently well. Second line is the light version of the top line. Necas drives the play, Lehky plays in the dirty areas, and Brock is the guy that can pass and finish well. I think Brock is better than Drouin but that also helps balance out the lines.

Its for many of these same reasons hf-avs could not figure out why Bednar didn't separate Necas and MacKinnon much sooner, even prior to the deadline trades.

This is scary, tbh. If you take Rantanen's production in Carolina and Dallas, he's scoring at a 43-point pace over 82 GP!! We can talk trades, being shocked, uprooting, new teammates, etc., but this guy is supposed to be a world-class, elite player who just signed an 8-year extension for 12 mil a pop. A 43-point pace is below-average production for a very good 3rd line player. At some point, the excuses will run dry if they haven't yet. We've all blamed the Avs, the Canes, the Stars, Brind'Amour, the Canes system, Robertson, Hintz, etc.

The fact is, Rantanen isn't getting it done... plain and simple. I've watched every game of his since he's been traded, and outside of 2-3 total, he's looked like a shell of himself... a completely different player. He looks slow, confused, frustrated, and out of sync. He's also made some very poor decisions, has flubbed passes and and lost puck battles.

I hate to say it, but not only has his production declined rapidly... I don't think he's improved Carolina or Dallas one bit. We can blame it on the trades, but I'm willing to bet everything I own that if we took Kucherov, McDavid, MacKinnon, Marner, Kaprizov, Tkachuk, etc. and put them on any other NHL team overnight, they'd acclimate themselves and still score at an elite level, or close to it!
I was at one of the last games he played as an Av. He looked this way too. My little brother kept commenting on how he looked lazy and checked out. Maybe he's got some personal things, or maybe the contract situation affected him. He looked very sad to me in his Dallas interviews right after the trade.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I hope he gets his groove back, just not against my Avs.

I think as a Stars fan i expect him to finish with slightly more points than Robertson each season. Would be disappointing if he didn't lead the team in scoring at least each season (although that depends on just how good Johnston becomes). Absolutely should lead them in goals every year I would hope

He won't be seeing that Colorado PP time though. So far in Dallas the PP shifts for him are 45 seconds to a minute and not a second longer when in Colorado I know sometimes their top unit played the full 2 mins. DeBoer is pretty quick to yank the top unit off the ice and won't hesitate to start the 2nd unit either for a PP. Last game that led to Dumba quarterbacking the Rantanen unit lol
Sounds about right. I expect a PPG, but sadly a "disappointment" in terms of comparing to COL numbers and maybe the AAV. 40-40 or 35-45 is what I bet he hits regularly.

Sadly (or not for the rest for the NHL) Robertson is likely gone right? Going to be hard to pay him and Harley next year.

My dream for Necas was 82 points. I think he should hit that.

What is crazy is that he has a higher .ppg in Carolina than the Avs. I've noticed his minutes have gone down too.
Playing with Mac to Nelson and PP1 to PP2. A lot of testing still, but that pp1 time is where a lot of minutes and points will be gone. But Necas was on PP1 and PP2 last night so who knows. Maybe he got stuck out there and stayed or it was planned.

That's because he started off the season so hot. He regressed back to the norm a bit in Carolina now he's putting up points again but not to the level of the start of the year.

He almost looks more dangerous with Nelson than MacKinnon. It's like he doesn't feel the need to share the puck as much.

That's a long way of saying that he looks the same as he did when he was on the Avs.

If he doesn't pick it up, Rantanen may fail to finish at 1.0+ ppg this season. He managed to acquire quite the cushion before the trade to still have 5 pts over ppg over this "crash".

Since his breakout season he's been really consistent in that department, only barely dipping below 1.0 in the first covid season 2019-20 (41 pts in 42 games). In the long run I see him back at 1.0+ ppg level as he's too good not to, but he may have to learn new or rejuvenate old tricks as Dallas don't have a world-top2 center/dman to feed him.

In the Stars system, how many points do you expect him to consistently score each season? I don’t know the Stars points leaders. Forget Rants’ present play or the trade episode in answering because it’s irrelevant. TIA.

I'd expect 85-95 in their current system. 35-40 goals though ideally since he absolutely should be the primary shooter on this team along with Robertson

I think he may rewrite the script in the playoffs. He is a proven performer in them. He started slow in the Cup run but by the end his numbers were great.

The one thing I noticed the last couple of years is that he just didn't look like he was having much fun out there. Many thought he was coasting, but given his size and minutes logged it is hard to look full tilt all the time.

He negotiated his last contract in Colorado in a fairly hardball manner. I think that is why Avs management was nervous. They feared becoming too top heavy ala Toronto. I think he, and his agent, didn't read the room well.

I’m gonna say Necas is gonna get between 10-12 next contract what’s everyone’s thoughts.

Rants will pick it up. I wouldn’t two much if I was Dallas fans

He has been amazing. I expect a long term deal asap. $8-9 maybe? It has helped Mac be so creative vs parking in Ovi's corner only.
I believe I read he was looking for 10+ and that was before cap went up, which is partly why Carolina decided to part ways

I see a lot of hopeful messages how people think Rantanen will be. 35-40 goal and 85-95 pt guy. I think this could be a Huberdeau v2 situation…or gaudreau (RIP)

Huberdeau 1st season with Calgary 55 pts
Rantanen 9 gp for Dallas (I know small sample size but it’s all I have atm) 9 gp 6 pts = 54 pt pace….

only ES points are 2 secondary assists in 9 games (2 PP points and 2 EN points). And he has never looked like the best player on the ice, much less on Dallas

8 more years at $12m…..

Itll be tight to squeeze Robo (hat trick) and Harley’s new deals in 1.5 years because of it. Dallas better fire DeBoer and replace him with a coach who runs 2 lines 23+ / night because this team is going to be 6 players @ $8+ and then 6 players at $800k

He's had a very good last couple of games. Also was easily the best player on the ice for Dallas in a few, including his first game here he was dominant.

I have no complaints with his play the last couple of games. If he plays like that consistently the points will come, so I'm not too worried about it as a Stars fan

Last night was the first time since he joined the team that we saw some potential chemistry with his linemates. It's coming

I'm not sure if Rantanen ever does look like that. His playing style isn't what you'd call flashy. And he isn't the quickest skater. But can be very dangerous when he has the puck.

I didn't watch yesterdays game, just highlights, but a few have already hinted that it was his best game so far. Relating to your comment here and judging by stats I'd say that he was the best forward in the Philadelphia game. He had the most 5v5 shots (2) on goal out of all forwards and had the second most shots (3) in all situations while Harley had most. Robertson had no shots in that game and Hintz only one during PP. He also assisted Duchene in the almost a goal situation that to me looked like it went over the goal line. One of his breakaway attemps resulted in penalty for the opposing team.

So it's not like he has been just coasting around. I think he is getting there. Deboer has said that Rantanen wants to look at tapes of games and is asking how he can get better in the team etc. So he is actively thinking about this atleast as much as we are lol. I'm sure he will be more comfortable in the near future.

Didn't Lehkonen's dad call him out for his lazy play couple of years ago? This isn't new

No he didn't. You are free to provide a quote if you think he did.

This comes up fairly often in English based discussions. Seems to me that there is a misunderstanding as to what Ismo actually said.

Im a Finn so I can tell you that he didn't call Mikko lazy as some other people seem to think. Actually he did say the opposite: that Mikko had too much other stuff going during that particular summer break: world championships, junior camp, small events etc. He said Mikko is bad at saying no to others.

He did another interiew where he clarified his view because people got him wrong.
