Sounds like Mikko and his agent were playing hardball for an extra $500k-1.5M and the Avs called the bluff. Sad all around.
100%. I am optimistic for this season, but also was looking forward to 96 in the rafters. Now its just bad and all because Mikko wanted an extra $500k-1.5M just to settle for what we offered. Blah.I'm not sad
We've got Martin Necas out there busting his ass every shift and killing it offensively
Mikko got that bag but its heavy
I don’t think many thought he’d regressed.Rantanan is back in form playing on a team he wants to be on.
And people thought he permamently regressed? Lol he's too good for that.
I don’t think Dallas fans care if he gave full effort in Carolina lol. If he plays lights out amazing for them they’ll be ecstatic. And just a little louder for the people in the back - even if Rantanen is lights out amazing in Dallas - only giving a full effort for a team you want to play for IS NOT A GOOD TRAIT AS A PERSON
I’m on this train. This whole saga does not make Rantanen look good. It’s one thing to want to go to free agency and make the decision for which team you’ll play for. It’s another to sandbag your way through the remainder of your contract and have the first words out of your mouth to your new employer be ‘I don’t want to play here’.And just a little louder for the people in the back - even if Rantanen is lights out amazing in Dallas - only giving a full effort for a team you want to play for IS NOT A GOOD TRAIT AS A PERSON
Colorado traded him out of nowhere, to a team he didn't want to go to, the fit wasn't there, and he was able to be traded to a team he did want to go to. How is this on Rantanen? The Colorado front office deserves all the blame here, he was still wanting to negotiate and they traded him, uprooting his entire life and family.I’m on this train. "Out of nowhere"... Bullshit. Is Rantanen and his agent really that dumb to not know that this could be a real thing for any UFA who plays hardball?Colorado traded him out of nowhere, to a team he didn't want to go to, the fit wasn't there, and he was able to be traded to a team he did want to go to. How do you think you'd play in that situation? Players are human.Lol. Rantanen playing like crap when hes unhappy is all on him and thats why giving him this huge deal is gonna be a risk.
You're irrationally angry for something you don't seem to understand."Out of nowhere"... Bullshit. Is Rantanen and his agent really that dumb to not know that this could be a real thing for any UFA who plays hardball?
Or was it just the fact that they thought MacFarland is bluffing and they wanted to call the bluff. Only to find out MacFarland is not joking anymore and sent him packing.
And if Friedman is indeed serious with his take, oh boy, not a good look on Rantanen and his agent.
In the end Carolina did very good under this circumstances. But they want to win a cup, not trade for futures. So maybe next year they can load up like crazy with enough cap and trade-material, but this year... I dont see them coming out of the east. They went for Rantanen because they wanted the cup this year, only to see their season kinda derailed because of this trade-nightmare.
And thats why Rod is pissed because his team is weaker for now heading into the playoffs.
Duchene has recently opened up about him being bought out by Nashville and how it'd hit him at strange, completely random times during the season and playoffs, and it majorly affected his play. Players go through things we typically never hear about, and Colorado uprooting Rantanens entire life, sending him to a team they knew he didn't want to go to is going to effect him.He said it himself the contract/trade stuff was seriously stressing him out, to the point where it was hard to focus in games towards the end there with the Canes. Won't probably get him the superman of the year award but seems pretty human and these takes that make him out to be some uber bad guy are pretty ridiculous.

He's a professional getting paid millions of dollars to play a game. This whole thing makes him look like a selfish baby.Colorado traded him out of nowhere, to a team he didn't want to go to, the fit wasn't there, and he was able to be traded to a team he did want to go to. That’s part of being a professional athlete. He signed the contract that allowed him to be traded in the first place. You’re acting like he’s the first guy to ever be traded.Colorado traded him out of nowhere, to a team he didn't want to go to, the fit wasn't there, and he was able to be traded to a team he did want to go to. The problem with this rationale is that there are so many other guys who go through this exact circumstance every year. Sure it can be disappointing and stressful. But as a mature adult, you pick your head up and work your way through it. You don’t let your first communication with your new employer be ‘I don’t want to work here’ and then give minimal effort. He said it himself the contract/trade stuff was seriously stressing him out, to the point where it was hard to focus in games towards the end there with the Canes. Imagine not thinking about the humans. Couldn't be me.That’s part of being a professional athlete. He signed the contract that allowed him to be traded in the first place. You’re acting like he’s the first guy to ever be traded.
Lol. You can be human and still go to work with your head held high.Imagine not thinking about the humans. Couldn't be me.
You're trying to blame the humans at the avalanche front office for Rantanen acting like a child.Imagine not thinking about the humans. Couldn't be me.
