I'm not sad

We've got Martin Necas out there busting his ass every shift and killing it offensively

Mikko got that bag but its heavy
100%. I am optimistic for this season, but also was looking forward to 96 in the rafters. Now its just bad and all because Mikko wanted an extra $500k-1.5M just to settle for what we offered. Blah.

Rantanan is back in form playing on a team he wants to be on.

And people thought he permamently regressed? Lol he's too good for that.
I don’t think many thought he’d regressed.

Most have seen his lackluster game-to-game effort with the Avs and wondered if it would be adjusted since he couldn’t rely on his comfortable position within the organization after the trade. That didn’t happen in Carolina by the sounds of it, but could also have extenuating factors such as stress and comfort within the canes.

Jury is still out how he translates in Dallas but it looks like he’s had a good start.

And just a little louder for the people in the back - even if Rantanen is lights out amazing in Dallas - only giving a full effort for a team you want to play for IS NOT A GOOD TRAIT AS A PERSON
I don’t think Dallas fans care if he gave full effort in Carolina lol. If he plays lights out amazing for them they’ll be ecstatic.

I’m on this train. This whole saga does not make Rantanen look good. It’s one thing to want to go to free agency and make the decision for which team you’ll play for. It’s another to sandbag your way through the remainder of your contract and have the first words out of your mouth to your new employer be ‘I don’t want to play here’.

Colorado traded him out of nowhere, to a team he didn't want to go to, the fit wasn't there, and he was able to be traded to a team he did want to go to. How is this on Rantanen? The Colorado front office deserves all the blame here, he was still wanting to negotiate and they traded him, uprooting his entire life and family.

"Out of nowhere"... Bullshit. Is Rantanen and his agent really that dumb to not know that this could be a real thing for any UFA who plays hardball?

Or was it just the fact that they thought MacFarland is bluffing and they wanted to call the bluff. Only to find out MacFarland is not joking anymore and sent him packing.

And if Friedman is indeed serious with his take, oh boy, not a good look on Rantanen and his agent.

In the end Carolina did very good under this circumstances. But they want to win a cup, not trade for futures. So maybe next year they can load up like crazy with enough cap and trade-material, but this year... I dont see them coming out of the east. They went for Rantanen because they wanted the cup this year, only to see their season kinda derailed because of this trade-nightmare.

And thats why Rod is pissed because his team is weaker for now heading into the playoffs.

Lol. Rantanen playing like crap when hes unhappy is all on him and thats why giving him this huge deal is gonna be a risk.

Spittingchiclets making it known that the Avs blindsided Rantanen when he was willing to stay on a hometown discount.

They also mentioned the Canes GM was aware Mikko had no interest in signing with them, yet he still went out to make the deal.

This is also not the first time this information has been stated either.

It’s pretty funny to see each respective fanbase crying as if they’re the victim here and as if Mikko was the one who screwed their team over lol.

Yes. We are very happy to have one of the league’s top power forward because both Colorado and Carolina fumbled the ball big time :)

He said it himself the contract/trade stuff was seriously stressing him out, to the point where it was hard to focus in games towards the end there with the Canes. Won't probably get him the superman of the year award but seems pretty human and these takes that make him out to be some uber bad guy are pretty ridiculous.

How do you think you'd play in that situation? Players are human.

You're irrationally angry for something you don't seem to understand.

Duchene has recently opened up about him being bought out by Nashville and how it'd hit him at strange, completely random times during the season and playoffs, and it majorly affected his play. Players go through things we typically never hear about, and Colorado uprooting Rantanens entire life, sending him to a team they knew he didn't want to go to is going to effect him.

Wonder if the Avs gave Rantanen and the agent a last ultimatum just before the trade. Seems like they didn't and it does look very poorly on the franchise. Everything would've been avoided if they said look, it's 12 million aav or we trade you tonight. Gotta think Rants takes it.

That's not to say he won't carve a nice and satisfying second chapter to his career in Dallas.

He's a professional getting paid millions of dollars to play a game. This whole thing makes him look like a selfish baby.

That’s part of being a professional athlete. He signed the contract that allowed him to be traded in the first place. You’re acting like he’s the first guy to ever be traded.

The problem with this rationale is that there are so many other guys who go through this exact circumstance every year. Sure it can be disappointing and stressful. But as a mature adult, you pick your head up and work your way through it. You don’t let your first communication with your new employer be ‘I don’t want to work here’ and then give minimal effort.

Imagine not thinking about the humans. Couldn't be me.
