That’s a long post to confirm that a guy who is just standing around waiting for his contract to expire will score less than the one playing with the highest scoring F and highest scoring D in the league.
I’m not sure that’s the explanation. I suspect he intentionally played bad to force a trade to Dallas. He’s already at two points (1 goal, 1 secondary assist) after first game for new team (has signed an extension for the Stars already).

necas - 15gp, 5g, 11a, 16pts
rants - 14gp, 3g, 5a, 8pts

i expect rantanen to get back to near 100pt pace again. he fits better in dallas.
My nervousness for Rantanen never touching his Avs numbers in Dallas still is the spreading out of ice time due to depth. Last nght is a good example. He hit 21 min, but DAL also had 3 PP's and no PK's. Im curious if that 20-21-22 average is consistent there for him.

Well he also acts like he cares which the last 2 games he most definitely did not.. I mean his play would have been 3rd 4th line in the A.. From those 2 games NOTE Not saying he dogged all the games.. but the ones after he decided to not be in Carolina

Mikko was pretty upset after being traded. It affected him. Mikko in Dallas is now the enemy. Hopefully Necas continues to gel with this team

Howd he look 5v5? PP is obviously his bread and butter and I expect that to improve in DAL now, but Edm is pretty meh defensively. I was hoping theyd beat up on them.

He had some pretty great moments, he was being double shifted after Hintz injury and the momentum definitely changed in Dallas's favor.

Made a lot of good plays but Dallas struggled to get their sticks on the puck.

My hunch says rants point total about to go up.

I will say though.. a lot of blame is on the canes system. Necas was .ppg in same system and led NHL in scoring for a week or so in that system.

As an Oiler fan.. I expect Dallas to tear shit up. If they meet avs.. that will be a bloodbath. And this thread will be fun as well. Imagine a direct head to head playoff scenario!?? I would geek the f*** out lol
Shouldn’t that tell you that it’s more the player than the system? If one guy puts up the same numbers in both systems and one guy bombs in one system and thrives in the other that screams player issue not system issue.

Sounds like Mikko and his agent were playing hardball for an extra $500k-1.5M and the Avs called the bluff. Sad all around.

I like the canes and think they play beautiful hockey to be honest. I also like Rantanen and think that was a weird blip. And I obviously love Necas.lol.

This pretty much confirms he just was super stressed and now he is so happy he has a long-term home. Thats why he wasn't play like he is able when he is on it.
its very obvious now Carolina never was in his mind, if it was that clear why in the hell did they ever traded him in the first place. of course, it was plan from the beginning flip him at the trade deadline and they were open him to about it, must have been stressful to try not injure and damaging yourself and f*** up everything, and being stuck in the place you were never intended to be

I don't know if you're serious or not, but yeah even if so a little bit.. he is a human after all and there is a life to think outside of hockey.

Btw you've been a good poster from what I've seen so you might be half joking, half serious. :)
I would say it was stated with about 25% seriousness lol

I do think it's a little unbecoming of a megastar to sulk the way he did. I doubt it will be indicative of his future play though.

I am not even a massive fan of Rantanen. I wish him success because he is a Finn, but as a player he is not even close being one of my favourites. Lehkonen, Lundell and Barkov are maybe my top 3 currently.

I don't like the way Rantanen has acted and I am very bitter over his performance for the Finnish national team.

Makes sense. I think this was the direction a lot of us Avs fans had been headed for a while as well.

He said that in his TSN post trade interview. He was absolutely shocked he was traded from COL, took a few weeks to come to terms with it and realized he didnt want CAR. Why he DID want Dallas though is confusing since he couldve easily signed there at UFA. Im thinking either spite to COL or he obviously saw a bad fit and wanted a better one and to sign now before his numbers tanked more and he was signing for $9-10-11 at UFA.

The biggest factor was probably just that he would lose the ability to sign for that 8th year if he held out any longer.

Whether he specifically wanted the Stars or not, losing that 8th year would probably have cost him something in the order of a million a year over the life of the contract, in a state with no income tax. That’s a lot of reasons to stop haggling and get the deal done.
