Wow I just saw this thread for the first time. I cant believe how bad Rantanen has been, and how good Necas is.
I'm a Canes fan that also loves the Avs and lives in CO, not much of a team bias - and I very much want Necas to get the recognition he deserves as a player.

The difference isn't as stark when you look beyond the pts totals. Im not much of an advanced stat guy but articles have come out showing Rants has been the Canes most dangerous player who until last night wasn't getting any bounces. Now that the Canes adjusted the pp there should be more going for him and he broke out a bit with two pts last night. Necas has played well but not quite as well as he did early this season for the Canes - he's capable of a whole other level. He was leading the NHL in scoring early on and doing it mostly all by himself. Last night he had three assists where he was really just moving the puck around the perimeter on the pp, he didn't make any big plays and got the assists off being on a lethal pp. These were the pts Rants used to get which inflated his totals. Rants has had a slow start but theres a lot more nuance going on here than what's being presented.

I still believe canes knew what they were doing, some players benefit more than others playing certain systems and some systems benefit more certain players. In the end Rantanen may or may not be that guy who turns the franchise.

Lets see after postseason.

Aight, I’ll say it- a well-coached, functional organization on a losing streak vs. the Sabres. I’m absolutely taking those 3 points with a grain of salt, they wanted to get him going and faced the perfect team to do it against. That pp goal doesn’t count for him as much as it does the Sabres coaching staff. I guarantee he doesn’t parlay this into a hot streak, and instead continues to be Huberdeau 2.0. If I’m wrong I’ll disappear from this thread and won’t respond to people calling me out on being wrong, as is HF standard.

Seriously though, dude was Ringo of them Avs.
