The agent probably screwed him. He has said multiple times that he was under the impression that he'd be taking a paycut in order to stay with the team. I don't think that was being communicated between the two parties.

Colorado were also probably looking at Necas as a piece that would fit, and one they could afford while still leaving plenty of room for other contracts. They would've been more hesitant to pull the trigger if they didn't think that Necas could be a guy to replace Rantanen's production. There was obviously a lot of faith in him by the management, and so far it looks like they're right

Driving the play, shots on net, possession, etc. It's all good stuff at the end of the day the puck needs to go in the net if someone is going to be considered an elite offensive player. Rantanen's play will come, I'm sure of it. He is insane and despite the 7 game sample size I still believe him to be the superior player.

The things you are describing are things McCarty did and did well, and he had a physical aspect to his game that Rantanen doesn't. Rantanen before the trade was a 50 goal scorer,I think that is what you wanted in Carolina. Oh well, guess he Jonny Cheechoo 2 Electric Bugaloo
