Is that just 2 points in 6gp as a Cane for Rantanen? Yikes. And it's killing my fantasy team! I think Biz is right when he says there is zero chance Rantanen resigns in Carolina... and, if it keeps going like this, there's zero chance the Canes would be coughing up 13x7 for him anyway.

Unfortunately, this trade seems like a big loss for everyone involved -- the Canes, the Avs, Rantanen, and especially the fans of both teams. The only one who "might" benefit is Necas, who gets to skate with MacKinnon and Makar for the foreseeable future.
At least Canes part is judged no earlier than playoffs, because that's why they acquired Rantanen.

I doubt it, only so much cap. Even if Colorado wanted to they wouldn’t have the cap room without offloading significant salary
The cap is going up significantly and they could easily move one of Mittelstadt (5.75) or Colton (4) and Manson (4.5) and have plenty of money to pay Rantanen 11.5 or so.

If there is a world Rantanen comes back in addition to Necas extending, I will bow down to Cmac and Joe.

Quite literally the definition of Most Valuable Player.

You honestly don't think a player who scored BTB 100+ points and who was on his way to a third consecutive... shouldn't be judged on the amount of points he scores? This guy is / was / should be an "elite" offensive force... and he's looking to command 13 mil x 8 on the open market this summer. I would be hard-pressed to believe the Canes traded for him to be a Jordan Staal clone or a 200-foot, two-way player who scores a ppg or less.
Not listening. I’m saying that a player shouldn’t only be judged for points. People were saying Rantanen couldn’t operate without Mac but he is still the top offense generator on his team except he’s not putting up points.

Rantanen should've just taken the money. He had chemistry and was playing on a comfortable spot.. why be greedy?
He was not, have you heard his interviews? It was exactly opposite. Colorado just didn't want to pay him even he was accepting big discount, and he thought they were mutually agreeing

Well kind of. I guess it depends on what "not wanting to pay him" means.

It has been reported the offer from the Avs was $11.75M / yr. In fairness I would've gone higher, I would've gone to $12.6M / yr personally.

Advanced stats on any Canes player needs to be taken with a huge dose of salt because of the system they play. When for years the stats have been showing production that never materializes, it might be time to revaluate the advanced metrics. It may look great on paper, but it doesn't on the scoreboard, and by now we know it's not just due to a small sample size.
Oh yeah because Tony Deangelo, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Calvin De Haan, Joel Edmundson, and many more players had good underlying stats on the canes.

He wasn't leaving a penny on the table, haha, I don't believe a word about taking a discount.

Least Deangelo put up some points hehe

yeah you don’t understand it appears. Did yo7 know you that you can drive play and generate good chances and not score goals and assists?

Yeah and you become a meme.

Based on his reaction I don't believe Rantanen was greedy at all

Deangelo didn’t put any points up in that second stint did he? People in this thread just want to be obtuse and not know the different between scoring points and being a good playdriver.
Bro c'mon. Let's not pretend like player success isn't determined by points and production.

Driving the play, shots on net, possession, etc. It's all good stuff at the end of the day the puck needs to go in the net if someone is going to be considered an elite offensive player. Rantanen's play will come, I'm sure of it. He is insane and despite the 7 game sample size I still believe him to be the superior player.
