Rantanen vs Necas points race to end of season.

FYI... as we speak, it looks like Necas just got a nice apple on the GA goal for the Avs... and 2 points for MacKinnon.

True. But Mark Recchi was like 900 years old, in a supplementary role, and wasn't a pending UFA who already turned down 12 mil a pop.

Yes, it is. Tbh, I haven't watched many of the Canes games since the trade (just the first two) but Necas has "looked" very good in all the Avs games I've watched. He's not scoring at a 1+ ppg pace like in Carolina... but he has looked like a great fit.

Crazy considering his line is over a 60% Corsi percentage and has been top 3 in xGF among canes players since he was traded here. I swear people look at points and determine how good a player is. It’s like saying Jordan staal is a bad player because he barely puts up any points. Necas is the flashier player he will show up more and look better, Rantanen is supposed to be the goal-scorer. He may not be right now at this time but at the end of the day if he can mesh it by the playoffs it will be worth it.

Currently at 6pts in 7 games. He has hit a lot of posts as an Av.

I won't lie, I'm loving it! I was fine to watch Canes with him as well. I like the Canes. This was a win win for me. Glad he's getting more minutes and top line treatment.

From what I've seen, Necas isn't the guy I'd want in game 7.

The agent probably screwed him. He has said multiple times that he was under the impression that he'd be taking a paycut in order to stay with the team. I don't think that was being communicated between the two parties.

Colorado were also probably looking at Necas as a piece that would fit, and one they could afford while still leaving plenty of room for other contracts. They would've been more hesitant to pull the trigger if they didn't think that Necas could be a guy to replace Rantanen's production. There was obviously a lot of faith in him by the management, and so far it looks like they're right.

You honestly don't think a player who scored BTB 100+ points and who was on his way to a third consecutive... shouldn't be judged on the amount of points he scores? This guy is / was / should be an "elite" offensive force... and he's looking to command 13 mil x 8 on the open market this summer. I would be hard-pressed to believe the Canes traded for him to be a Jordan Staal clone or a 200-foot, two-way player who scores a ppg or less.

Advanced stats on any Canes player needs to be taken with a huge dose of salt because of the system they play. When for years the stats have been showing production that never materializes, it might be time to revaluate the advanced metrics. It may look great on paper, but it doesn't on the scoreboard, and by now we know it's not just due to a small sample size.

I said this the second the trade was announced and I stand by it. His agency also represents Draisaitl and they just hit a grand slam with his deal and likely assumed they'd play hardball with the Avs until they were completely leveraged into caving to the demands. The Avs shut it down and dealt him. All of that said, I blame Rantanen 100%... more so than the agency.

The agent works for the player, not the other way around. Rantanen should have demanded he get a deal done... but he either lacks command and backbone, or he was just plain greedy.

Meanwhile, Necas just got a beauty of a PP goal.
