The race rages on today as Necas plays again.. against the Flyers.

Rants 4gp, 1G, 1A
Necas 4gp, 1G 4A

Necas is still very comfortably holding the plus/minus lead as well.lol

-3 for Necas
+2 for Rantanen

So Necas is winning at golf but losing at hockey in the coveted +/- battle.lol
 
Pasta is on fire and Necas has everything playing for him to produce alot of points too. Pasta is Hart material because what is he doing for last 3 years with Boston is something unbelievable, they would be cooked without him. Pasta is best winger in the world and it´s not even close, he can carry his team on his own. It would be so cool to have 2 Czechs in top 10 of point leaders of NHL.

Are you now a Cane's fan? Aho and Rants on same team must be a dream. I was dying for Necas to go to Bruins for the same reason. Although, I'm not minding watching Avs games a lot more now.. they are fun to watch.

Canes have always been my top team to follow and I guess even more so now. I haven't missed a game since the trade.

Limp Rod Brind´Amor will make defensive player out of Rantanen, whether he likes it or not. I feel sad for every offensive player in Carolina.
 
Marty Necas is the better player and I think that the Hurricanes made a huge mistake trading him away for Rantanen. This is a problem if you're Carolina because you not only lost your most creative playmaker, but you substituted him for a dude who works as a bulldozer. I think Rantanen is gonna leave Carolina if the Hurricanes bottom out in the playoffs.

you do realize I’m an avs fan who misses like 4 games a year. Right after reading this thread his passing hasn’t been noted as a positive and I merely pointed it out

That guy is a notorious Avs hater, I wouldn't think twice about what he said. He's just going for the easy dunk. Why else would he include that part about Rantanen being the reason why Mack won the hart? lol we all know that's horse shit

Agreed. A lot of posters who saw Carolina as winning this trade have no clue how hockey and a cap world work. Carolina gets a rental. If rants does as expected, Carolina is on the hook for his 12 mil plus caphit. If he doesn’t do well, they sign an underperforming rants to a similar caphit or lose him. Avs got a good depth player in drury who is good at face offs as well as necas under contract for 6.5 mil caphit. Sakic recognized the thing that he needed to address the most was depth. He did that and didn’t lose rants for nothing.

The Avs PP has been looking a bit better lately with Necas. Rants has a great one timer on the PP but with the puck on his stick he's always been an iffy PP player. Forces cross seam passes that aren't there constantly.
 
It’s just weird how every player that comes to Carolina just suddenly stops scoring. Rantanen has been one of Carolina’s best players since the trade (rangers game was the worst xGF/corsi wise). His 4 games with Carolina have been better than his last 9 games with Colorado if we are taking xGF into account. Also, I see in the thread that Carolina is dumb for getting rid of Necas and the thing is it wouldn’t matter because at the end of the day they have prospects coming up who play a similar game (Blake and Nadeau).


Also to add on, I believe that RBA can take any player with “mid” skill, but above average forechecking and turn them into an NHL player. It’s his failure to play his players like they want that holds him back. Blake looks like rookie year Jarvis, except flashier defensively which is something I did not expect. Furthermore, a player like Artamonov will fit in nicely because of his two-way game. Necas is a 100 point player, but I think the Canes felt as if he was replaceable in a way. Look at Carolina’s roster in 2018-19 and that somehow got them an ECF experience.

Necas is also playing better than the stats show which is crazy. Mans averaging over a hit post per game. Puck luck is bringing down his already good stats.

Martinook and Staal were at the rink today for their kids' games, Martinook saw a guy in a Necas jersey and said "miss that guy".

I can only assume this was his way of telling me that Necas will indeed outscore Rantanen through the end of the season. We can close the thread now.

I loved the trade when it was done and I love it even more now. Our PP is/looks much better. Our top line is even more fun to watch. Necas has been actually better defensively than I thought he could be.

FYI Necas has also hit 4 posts/crossbars since joining the Avs and could have got an easy EN goals yesterday if he would have been more selfish. Instead Kiviranta gave up the puck. He has been reallllllllly good.
