Happy Necas gets some practice time as they try and figure out what he is and what he can bring to the team. In this case, i'd say Necas needs to realize he has a golden opportunity and do everything he can to fit in with Mak and Mack.

The issue I have with the +/- argument is that it's really a team stat, if a goal is scored all 5 skaters on the ice get a -. So a player could end up a -2 in a game but they were covering their man just fine on those while another guy misses their coverage or the goalie lets in a soft one and it still dings all 5 skaters.

Check the cap hit percentage for the top 3/4 players on those teams. Toronto is way, way more top-heavy and the Oilers would be too if they carried three of the league’s largest contracts.

The Nurse contract is really a killer, in the sense that they have a “big 3” cap structure but only 2 big players. And it’s not like they can just ditch a 22 minute defenseman, they would still need to close that gaping hole in the lineup.

I don’t think they’re in a position to be serious about taking on another major contract. Sounds like the rumor mill doing rumor mill things.

If they sign Rants and it's in the Draisaitl range that he's apparently asking for they would have 2 x $14m forwards locked up long term and then McDavid is gonna be like $16m per year or something. Absolute craziness

Taylor Hall has that second line looking the best it has in years. They completely dominated the
Rangers. It’s funny because Rod had him playing on the 4th line in his debut but moved him up halfway through the Isles game. As for Rantanen? I think he had it harder than Necas. Necas played in RBAs system since 19-20, it took him forever to adjust. I believe that Rantanen never had to play on the boards or be a hard forechecker because of Mac’s zone entries. Guentzel was a good fit immediately because Pitt plays a similar system, however Rantanen will take a bit. Hall is my favorite player in the deal so far.

Taylor hall is underrated. He does a lot of things well. He is fantastic at getting the puck out of his end and into the offensive zone.
