If I had to guess, I'd say yes.
Media has misconstrued one DeBoer quote (that he clarified the next day) and ran in the opposite direction with a "Miro is out through round one" narrative.

I'm not jumping on the whole coping train, but...
It's funny you see it that way. Because the way I see it, Rantanen was producing at a 1.31PPG pace while on the Avs and no reason to think that would've changed had he not been traded. Necas is producing at a 1.04PPG since joining the team. So based on that one trade alone (not taking into account money saved and additional player added at the TDL), Necas is definitely not outproducing anything. In terms of production, the Avs downgraded in that one trade for this season.
Trying to compare Landeskog missing 3 years vs Heiskanen missing 3 months is some absurd mental gymnastics.
Is Dallas cap compliant if they activated Heiskanen today?
Even without the drama of their best forward starting the year as the Avs fourth most important skater, the match up has been all but a lock for weeks.

I think they would have to send someone down (I could be wrong on that), but the word is no way Miro is back for the regular season. It's Seguin who might be back for the last game or two. Thank god for the playoff loophole though. So glad we get to take advantage of it for once.

I personally think it's more grey and there is no definitive answer. He's not even skating yet with less than a month to go, I'm not as hopeful.

The bottom line for me is that Rantanen was only a slight step down from MacKinnon for most of his Colorado tenure (except the last couple, due to MacKinnon turning Super Saiyan). You could pair him with anyone and he'd materialize goals out of thin air. Now the narrative is "he doesn't have the right linemates!" or "he's rounding into form, he's got points in consecutive games!" The dude used to score at will with the Avalanche, he would've scored with me as his center. I knew his overall game had taken a step back since 2023, but I'm aghast about his recent offensive output. Yeah, I get that the multiple trades jarred him. But the underlying numbers are awful (43.8 CF%, 43.0 xGF%) and the production isn't the caliber we're used to seeing. Call it small sample size or whatever you want, he hasn't had a 23 game stretch this bad since his rookie season.

Not sure if you mean the Avs as a team downgraded or they downgraded at Rant’s former RW spot.
1. In either case, I disagree and regardless, it still remains to be seen if that is true. Looking forward to the POs;
2. You have to look at that trade as allowing the Avs flexibility to effectively reconfigure their lines so now they have four effective lines that they can roll out.
You can say the Avs downgraded at RW on the first line but you overlook the fact that it’s Nichushkin in that spot. And Nuke IMO is a more valuable player to the Avs than Rants. Sorry but Nuke has two way play with ferocious forechecking in addition to scoring down low.
This isn’t to diminish Rants’ elite skills as a finisher. He’s superb. But with Rants’ departure, all the Avs players move their feet now and it has supercharged the team.
FTR, many knowledgeable fans on the Avs forum consider Rants to be the superior player. Scoring wise, maybe though I suspect Necas will surprise people with his scoring and points accrual under Bednar’s system. It’s not just that though. Necas drives play. Rants didn’t.
So saying it’s a downgrade is IYO. We shall see.

I more referring to the other poster saying Necas is outproducing Rantanen for the Avs, which is false. The trade has more nuances than just points being put up (cap, future contract/years, ability for Avs to acquire other players at TDL), but in terms of the 1 for 1 trade, they downgraded in production.
Also, I think the Avs made out great and each time I watch Necas with the Avs, he reminds me of a Mackinnon-lite.
Point-wise Necas isn't scoring at the rate that Rantanen was as an Avalanche player. But he has added more to the team in other ways. So maybe people are wrong in saying that but Necas backchecks better than Rantanen, he drives play better than Rants which has ended up with more opportunities for other players. As an Avs fan I am very happy with the trade.

Downgraded in production on paper. IMO the real test for Rants and Necas will be PO performance. Bottom line, they’re both great players. Rants is definitely regarded as better but that’s because of his resume playing on a stacked team.
As for Miro, I’d be wigged out if I was a Stars fan and he hasn’t begun skating. Landeskog looks great skating wise but we’re holding our collective breaths whether he can take contact. I wouldn’t want to just march Miro right into the POs like that.
