Loading up for war

Fair I’m pretty sure Stank would be coveted by every team in the league, if you look at it as Necas for Stank isn’t that bad value wise, just a bit odd considering that the Canes are in a win now mode.

Stankoven is one year younger than Jarvis and born in the same year as Jackson Blake, so he fits a particular wave of talent in the organization.

When's the latest a trade has ever finalized? Hard to imagine Nill's old ass is still up.

I remember being in Vegas and compulsively checking HF at like 1am when the Erik Johnson trade was announced.

"I obviously was not expecting this," Johnson told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in a text at 2:40 a.m. CT, just hours after the Blues beat the Sabres in Buffalo.

Years ago Eric johson got traded at 3:00 AM. Blues to Avs I think or was it vice versa? Its late....think it was Avs to Blues. Edit: it's Erik and it was Blues to Avs. I do know without checking it was between 3 and 3:15 A.M.

He is a great return no matter what but I can understand that Canes fans might be mad at downgrading players when they are top tier contenders even if they end up winning this trade value wise in the long run

He is sundowning. Now is the time to fleece him.

Yeah I assume this gets announced tomorrow morning, no reason to stay up.

If you're staying up just to hear the trade return, then go to bed. If you're up because you'd be up anyways due to a brutal array of life choices that resulted in you being on a hockey message board at 2 AM Eastern on a weekday, then you might as well wait.

If the Canes are "top tier" contenders, then so is nearly 1/3 of the league

OMG...I was just thinking the same thing. I was living in Edmonton at the time and was getting ready for bed and this one just shocked me. Shattenkirk and Stewart going to St Louis.

Mavrik Bourque would also make a ton of sense for Carolina. A right-handed center (a player type that the Canes are coveting for their 4th line) who just turned 23. If Nikishin and Morrow pan out as prospects next season, Stankoven and Bourque could give us a bit of a Presti/OKC vibe with a pending Gen Z talent wave of Svechnikov/Jarvis/Kotkaniemi/Stankoven/Bourque/Blake/Nikishin/Morrow.
