So this is actually a thing.lolDoes Necas have more points than Rantanen this year if you remove all their empty net points?
So not to go off topic too much on this thread but wanted to answer you on this. I guess last season Kuch was dismissed by people on these boards (some being Avs fans) for the hart because of his empty net points. Now this season, Rants and MacK were getting them, so people on these boards flipped the script. (This is what I know, as I don't frequent the boards, let alone all the different sections as much as I probably should as a hockey fan)Sidenote; I think I am the victim of some ongoing HF debate on empty net points that I am clearly oblivious too.
It was part of the argument for MacKinnon to win the hart over Kucherov (who had a bunch of EN points that won him the art ross).Sidenote; I think I am the victim of some ongoing HF debate on empty net points that I am clearly oblivious too.
Thank you and I knew it!So not to go off topic too much on this thread but wanted to answer you on this. Jt Miller?!?!This is all moot, this has been 4d chess from the Avs. They'll flip Necas for more assets and re-sign Mikko in the offseason.
Jt miller and a 3rd!???No, we flip assets
It was part of the HF argument thinking the Kucherov/MacKinnon vote would be close so EN's were the difference, right? In reality it was a dominating vote in MacKinnon's favor from the actual voters. It was part of the argument for MacKinnon to win the hart over Kucherov (who had a bunch of EN points that won him the art ross).
So, this year, people have been trying to dunk on Avs fans because MacK/Rantanen had a ton of them so far lol
Tyson Barrie was on pace for 72 points running McDavid's PP and nearly out of the league the next season. Its a real thing.Thank you and I knew it!
This is PDO for the Nucks
PP merchants for RNH, Hyman and Bouch
and now
Empty net points.lol
FWIW.. I don't subscribe to Empty net points, PP merchants or PDO. The only one 2 I do believe in are 'small sample sizes' and 'unsustainable shooting percentage'.
To get those empty netters you have to be trusted to be on the ice in the final minute.
To get that PP merchant status you need to be elite and one of the 4 best scoring forwards or the best scoring Dman to 'benefit' from that
I don't know enough about PDO but I'm convinced my fellow Oiler fans invented it to piss off Nucks fans.lol
It’s just an unfair comparison if you’re playing without MacKinnon. He’s arguably the best player in the game today and he’d increase anyone’s production playing with him. It will be interesting to see how rant performs without him.
But isn't Necas a better player if he scores more for Colorado then Rantanen scores for Carolina?
Doing a pretty big disservice to Lindholm considering he scored 42 goals that year and had more goals than assists. Not if he scores those points by just handing off pucks to MacKinnon or Makar. That’s the 2022 Elias Lindholm special, Canes have already lived through all of these arguments.
Oilers don't have a window lmao.Similar window to the Oilers IMO. Our time is running out too.. Bouch and Mak extensions are killers.
Empty net points are worth something so I wouldn't entirely remove them, though it's true that they shouldn't be weighed as highly as points against a goaltender. So this is actually a thing.lol

Rants has 13 Empty net points and leads the league.
Necas has 1 Empty net point all season
So the difference is 12 points
They played the same amount of games before being traded.

and

so a 9 point difference
So, taking away empty net points
Necas has 54 points
Rants has 51 points

I'll just add that Necas was over ppg away from those guys
Regarding Rantanan... I'm a huge Drai fan and hate the 'he is carried argument'. I imagine Avs fans feel the same about Rantanan. So now is a great time to show that. Curious how it goes because Carolina is a great team and cup contender themselves.
I was aware Mack and Rantanen have been effective with the opposing team's goalie out this season but admittedly those numbers and the discrepancy are just huge. It's interesting to see how the rest of the season unfolds for both Rants and Necas for sure, especially if Rants can't keep a ppg in the Cane's system and with their roster. At the same time Necas' career bests are still 71 points and sub .90 ppg. Hopefully the Avs won't shoot themselves in the foot if they offer Necas a huge contract before next season. As for Rantanen and Canes, will be weird if they sign him long term for 13,5+ M and he only scores barely a ppg, that'd be crazy. Maybe it's just that there hasn't been a player of his stature and offensive output to play under Brind'Amour yet.So this is actually a thing.lol

What's with the blatant and consistent misspelling? It's Rantanen. NEN is the most common Finnish surname suffix. N-E-N, never with any other vowel than E in the middle. You're a long time poster and there've been many "nens" along with Rantanen in the league over the years. You see the name all the time, there's no umlauts or stresses etc. You even reply to a message where it's spelled correctly.
In the same way I can't help but wonder how people misspell surnames of house hold NHL players/legends such as Brodeur ("Broduer") and Fleury ("Fluery"). And stating a typo doesn't cut it: I've never seen those names misspelled any other way - no Bordeur, Brudoeur, Felury, Fleuyr etc. It's systematic. Systematic laziness and disrespect.
In the NBA (the lone Finnish player) Markkanen gets misspelled Markannen or Markkenen frequently. It's wild...
It's not a huge deal but I just had enough when the player in question is known well enough, the poster is a long-timer, it's blatant etc.
