I'm amazed by people ranking Sweden pretty high - we have one of the worst teams in years!

I dont think worst team in "years" gives it a fair description, try "decades" or "ever". The Swedish team that won last year did so soley based on two twins. Before they joined the tournament we had a better team than this year but still abysmal.

Swedish hockey is suffering heavily from players going to NA, we had around 70 players playing NHL games this year and if you count all the ones in AHL (hoping to make the NHL) there is a huge depletion of talent taken from SHL and other European leagues.

I hope the new CBA will make swedish talent stay longer in SHL for development (so they can develop more freely without getting forced into being role players). The stars of SHL are generally players who turned back home from AHL/NHL franchises who didnt want to give them a chance (lack of size etc).

This years team is staring Nyqvist, Järnkrok and Backlund, its going to be a very painful WHC...

AHL is an abysmal league, a lot of chaos and not much puck possession or organized play. We (the swedish coach) actually chose to kick a shl defensemen for Tim Erixon who hasn't done jack .... and is still nowhere near the NHL. As much as I wish this team will step up and play the hockey of their life and bring the gold home, i dont really believe they will reach the top 4.
