Kadri trade for me, tied into JT signing. We really didn’t need a 2nd hole center with Kadri, particularly as he was relatively cheap there, although at the time an upgrade and without the baggage. The LAST thing anyone was clamouring for was a one dimensional offensive, soft D man, literally jaw dropping return and exactly the wrong need. Kerfoot was a dime a dozen player really and Barrie was a joke here.

I will say though, his biggest blunder was how he handled the RFA contracts, it was all such a amateurish farce.

Think it's gotta be the Tavares contract because theres just been a massive snowball effect since that signing.

Its caused all our cap troubles, it caused Matthews and Marner to get extremely overpaid, caused the trade of Kadri etc etc, the list goes on.
This is exactly how I feel.

The Tavares signing led to so many issues. Most of this list can be directly linked to that mistake.

"Not accounting for a potential pandemic during contract negotiations" is probably #1, most of these options wouldn't have been an issue.

With hindsight, the Tavares deal is the worst probably, but he is also still a 1C and I think every other team would have made that deal if they could have.

Without hindsight the Murray deal. There was some reward if he could stay healthy, it just was not likely and it went the most likely way.

This is exactly how I feel.

Pandemic was the issue, it should be an option.

Virtually everyone does that signing.

I realize that it can't really be an option... just these signings in hindsight can be judged pretty harshly, but only a few can be judged poorly at the time.

You can't blame Dubas for Tavares. No one would give up getting an eliet #1C for free, and at a discount. Ya he's slowed down, but he is still a ppg #1C. Do none of you remember when we had the gallant but meager Bozak as our #1C? Really, some fans of this team have short memories. We are in an enviable position: we have the prospect of winning the cup in the next ten years with this core. But here many of you are, complaining about our captain and Dubas. I've never seen a fanbase so eager for blood.

To add further, it caused the Leafs to completely scrap the "rebuild" and rush into thinking every year could be the year so lets throw away all our assets and young players to try and win now.

Leafs have been nowhere near ready to compete despite all of this. What should have happened is to let the young team continue to develop and grow naturally, and when youve seen them finally take that step, you start making moves that increase your chances at contending

They were throwing away assets before that signing.

Loosing players such as Hyman, Brown and Kadri. Those are the guys you do whatever you can to keep them.

That Kadri deal was awful from the start. You could have packaged one of Johnsson or Kapanen instead of Brown who loved being a Leaf. And instead of adding Murray’s contract, you could have re-signed Hyman.

The list can go on and on. Looking back, I can’t believe how bad he really was.

Lost Brown to get rid of Zaitsev's crappy contract and still needed to eat Codi Ceci for good measure.
Good times.
Thanks Lou

Barabanov for no tangible return!

Have to go with the Marleau trade (because of where that 1st ended up being in the draft). I probably can't as easily pin whatever conclusion occurs for Matt Murray's tenure here on Dubas now.

Dubas blew a lot of things but he comes nowhere near the worse transactions in Leaf history.
Tender mercies
