McCabe isn't a top 4 dman on a good/great team with cup aspirations. He's a solid bottom pairing Dman, Lafferty is a replacement level 4th line forward that should have 0 value due to the glut of them around the league and a decent amount of them looking for employment every off-season. The price paid for the level of players was bad value because Dubas could never correctly identify which players the team needed each off-season.

Couldn't find the pennies to sign Noel Accari a few off-seasons ago while he fills out the roster with Kyle Clifford, Adam Gaudette and Nick Aube-Kebal. Dubas than trades for Accari at the trade deadline and its viewed like the clown knows what he is doing.

Thank god that moron is in Pittsburgh now, too bad Crosby's career is going to end with Dubas crashing what's left of that ship into the rocks.
This is silly. He's never been a bottom pair D ever and no cup contender will have the cap to afford him at his full cap hit to play him 3rd pair because he's NOT a bottom pair D LOL. He got 4 million because he's not some 5 or 6 D.

BTW it's not listed but his trade for Hyman in 2015 was just fantastic. People often forget he did that trade.

Before being acquired by the Leafs, McCabe spent 8 season playing on bottom feeders. Based on his limitations as a player, he is nothing more than a 3rd pairing D on a team expecting to be a contender. He got his first look at the playoffs last year and was in way over his head playing on the second D pairing.

Using the contract a player signs during UFA to justify where they should properly slot into a lineup is to use your word "silly", vast majority of players are overpaid every UFA signing season, this isn't a secret.

Detroit could have signed Justin Holl to a contract AAV of $7M per year and play him 25mins a night on their top pair, doesn't change the fact that Justin Holl is nowhere near the caliber player to be a top pairing Dman.
