I would say Bunting or Brodie. Giving the edge to Bunting simply due to the ridiculous value relative to caphit, but Brodie played a massive role in stabilizing our blueline, which had been a problem for a decade.

The blueline still has issues, with no elite all-around #1 D, but Brodie filled a major hole.

That really shouldn't even be included. He's played like 10 games and we really have no idea what he will become. It can't be properly evaluated.

Justin Pogge was like the best goaltending prospect in the NHL in 2005
Yeah, imagine if the Worst Dubas moves thread included all the bad draft selections.

Yup. It was a disaster pretty much from start to finish.

I would have more confidence in about 70% of the posters here doing a better job. Fair play to the bloke. He has gotten far with talk and not much action.
And still is amazing the new ownership group couldn’t wait to give dubas everything he wanted in Pittsburgh. Just gets perplexing after awhile

I honestly think it is funnier his #1 worst move was the Tavares signing, which was probably the most sought-after free agent of the last decade and the majority of fans loved it.

Shows you how good he was as a GM.

I don't think that the fact that the majority of the fans loved a move that we can now clearly see was wrong makes Kyle some kind of genius.

We could not afford Tavares as the second-highest paid player in the league playing our 2 C.

Why is anyone trying to defend it? It was wrong on so many levels as we can clearly see now.
From messing up the internal pay structure to stripping responsibility from Matthews and Marner by giving them captain Tavares - first of many to try to install some culture.

Yes, it was a no brainer for fans and rookie GM. You'd hope your GM knows better.

You compare the bad list to the good list and you ask yourself why Shanahan still has a job?

Because he wasn't the one making hockey decisions?

The Shanny was really the mastermind and impeded Dubas take is hilarious.

Dude tries to shake down the franchise for more money and get his boss fired to take his job and it backfires.

All of a sudden he wasn't allowed to make decisions

This is a sad list. Like really sad for someone working for a team for 5 years with championship aspirations.

I'd say not re-signing Campbell was a pretty damn smart move.

Campbell didn't have a very long track record. His performance was shaky the second half of the season. In the playoffs he was the second best goalie two years in a row.

Sound familiar?

Incredibly the Leafs have put themselves in the exact same situation with Samsonov. If he does well this year the contract expectations will likely be more than the Leafs will be willing to commit. If he does poorly the Leafs are not likely to re-sign him.

Either way, a return of Samsonov, like his predecessor before him, seems unlikely.

Who needs a good goalie anyway? Goalies are voodoo and all. It was a smart choice by Dubas to not re-sign Campbell.

Even a blind squirrel stumbles into a nut every now and then.

Yeah it’s too bad he had to let him go to FA like hyman and mikheyev because he spent half the cap in 4 forwards…

I know this thread just got bumped so this post is a little old, but seeing things like this just makes me laugh...

We spent like 3.5x his cap hit this off season and we spent more on a single player than his salary...

The team chose not to bring him back.

Funny this pathetic GM just steered the team to its best seasons in team history with many choosing Toronto to win their division this year.

I say Bunting signing with the extra year was absolutely brilliant.

First off his best move isn't drafting Knies the kid has a combined total of what 10 games of experience between regular season and playoffs?

That shouldn't even have been an option.

His best move is either signing Tavares or the Muzzin trade.

As for this poll.

It's the ROR because looking back, especially since they recouped the 1st they got ROR and Accari for scraps.

The McCabe trade wasa steal too.

To get a top top 4 D and a solid bottom 6 forward, even if I do think That bottom 6 forward is replaceable.

And not only to get a top 4 D, but to get him at 50% retained for 2 more years, for a top 10 protected 2025 1st, a 2026 2nd and AHL fodder was, and is an absolute robbery.

McCabe isn't a top 4 dman on a good/great team with cup aspirations. He's a solid bottom pairing Dman, Lafferty is a replacement level 4th line forward that should have 0 value due to the glut of them around the league and a decent amount of them looking for employment every off-season. The price paid for the level of players was bad value because Dubas could never correctly identify which players the team needed each off-season.

Couldn't find the pennies to sign Noel Accari a few off-seasons ago while he fills out the roster with Kyle Clifford, Adam Gaudette and Nick Aube-Kebal. Dubas than trades for Accari at the trade deadline and its viewed like the clown knows what he is doing.

Thank god that moron is in Pittsburgh now, too bad Crosby's career is going to end with Dubas crashing what's left of that ship into the rocks.

Trade down with the Blues so he can grab Sandin+SDA. Blues moved-up to pick Bokk. He's never played in the NHL.

He didn't steer anything. We drafted AM WN MM and decided to sign JT. They were here. We have a lot of firepower amd no PO success. No need to lionize the dope that never could get a beat on team chemistry.
