Of all the ways that I have seen a wedge driven between Yzerman and Sakic, that has got to be the most unique...

There is a difference between "best" and "greatest." Pound for pound, for "best", I'd go: Yzerman, Sakic, Crosby, Ovechkin, Kane.

But for "greatest" (based on their record of achievement), it's Ovechkin, Crosby, Yzerman, Sakic, Kane.

This is exactly how I would have it.

Ovechkin is a great player but there's no way a one-dimensional winger carried more value than an elite two-way C producing roughly the same point totals.

Yeah I always think there are a number of players I would rather have at peak in playoffs, and throughout their careers for the most part outside of their peaks/primes. Sakic is probably one of them, but yet it doesn’t feel right ranking Sakic ahead on all-time list.

I always wondered what the rationale for Yzerman over Sakic was (even if both are obviously close I just see a clear edge to Sakic).

But now you got me wondering about this order you’ve presented here among the top 4…

I can't undestand how anyone sees "a clear edge to Sakic".

Yzerman and Sakic are really too close to call -- like, I can never decide who I preferred. It's very similar with Bourque and Lidstrom, except they had, respectively, quite different roles on their clubs, whereas Yzerman's and Sakic's were very similar so if anything they're even closer.

Sakic:

In terms of accomplishments they are fairly even. Maybe Yzerman pulls ahead on the strength of his additional cup and higher scoring peak but Sakic was clutch in the 2002 Olympics, led SC playoffs in goals twice and played more of his prime in a lower scoring era.

I would probably take Sakic but I don’t see a “clear” edge for either player.
