Obviously we are looking at the body of work while with the Leafs. Although they haven’t played a game for the Leafs yet, I’m also interested to see where you might slot the new additions of Tanev and OEL into your list based their recent play.

I realize this may be a painful exercise for most of us, but it’s a rainy day and I though it might be appropriate.

Rainy? Not sure where you are but it’s a beautiful morning in Burlington with nothing but sun and heat forecasted for the rest of the day.

He might not have beem the "best", but Dave Ellett remains my favourite, with Rielly a close second.

Yuskevich was probably the "best" but he had some sort of blood clot in his leg that limited his time here. Muzzin and Kaberle round out my top five. There weren't any other defensemen that stood out for me in this period as anything special.

Except in a negative way (looking directly at you No Skill Todd Gill, Dion "Princess" Phaneuf, and Giveaway Gardiner).

Ian White ended up with 99.

In the really bad years, White and Gunnarsson had two of the best +/-, while Phaneuf and Kaberle had the worst.

you are correct. I just listed 20 and didn't have Jake McCabe on there, I think I lost track of McCabes as I already had one.

Will edit and add Jake now.

Yep. Only one year here. That hurt when he left

Either Jake McCabe is being over-rated or Pavel Kubina is being under-rated. Kubina was the far superior player in Toronto.

McCabe has only been here for a little more than 1 year too…. and Svehla was miles better than McCabe.

Still time for a couple of those to move up the chart.

B. McCabe was great at the beginning, but his can opener move he used for a while was eventually banned. Much less effective when they penalized him for his style of defensive play.

I don't think it was banned, they just started enforcing it. It was always a tripping penalty.

Kubina was a lot better than Liljegren. He’d probably be on the top pairing on this current team.
