Rank the Olympic gold medal winners (98-14)

For me it’s hard not to be a homer and not understand what the 06 gold means to us so Sweden’s gold will always come first and especially with the GWG by Lidström set up by Forsberg and Sundin (three Swedish legends and three of the best players we have ever had).

Next I’d say
Canada 2010 (winning against US in an intense OT)
Czech Republic 1998
Canada 2002
Canada 2014 (that game was just sad)

14 5th?

lmao

2014 Canada (the D was simply amazing)
2010 Canada (stacked)
1998 Czechs (Team Hasek)
2002 Canada (amazing on paper but very average until the last game)
2006 Sweden (threw the Slovak game and lost 5-0 to Russia; Finland deserved gold)

Entertainment value, 2010 Team Canada. In terms of dominance, 2014 Team Canada; we may not see such a dominant team again for a long time.

It was a dominant team but only on defence.

It's offence was actually quite bad - 17 goals in six games, which set a record for fewest goals scored by a gold medal winning team (beating the 1998 Czechs by one).

Czech Republic 98/Sweden 06 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>the rest

Finally, a poster without an agenda.

Really made me laugh.

Canada 2014
Canada 2002
Canada 2010
Sweden 2006
Czech Republic 1998

exactly this.

I would swap 2010 and 2002.

You changed my mind. This one is pretty good.

Of course, but does it really matter? There have been dozens of similar threads and each time a few posters who shall remain nameless, but we all know who they are, will throw a hissy fit and it gets shut down... real debate in threads like these is really not possible, so I don't even try.

Fair enough. :) I just hope we have NHL/Olympic hockey going forward because I would miss it.

Besides, with us (the good guys) holding 3 of the 5 gold medals, there's not much ammo for me to criticize the bureaucrats at HC; and we all know how I love doing that. :) That's my bread and butter.

I like to say we have won 4 of the last 5 "Best on Best" competitions since 2000. :naughty:

If you are referring to the 2004 World Cup. Well, sure! but I tend to overlook it only because I didn't see a single game...That August I had made the move to overseas and was busy with other things.

It was great series, buddy. The win over the Czechs was heart stopping.

I suggest you try to learn to use objectivism when commenting on stuff like this.

Even though Canada has been dominant and won 2002,2004 and 2010 those teams were still beatable by other countries. 2014 wasnt. Thats on another level to other countries when in past tournaments there was chance atleast.

Any team can be beaten but I would say the 2004 team was very comparable to the 2014 team in terms of dominance. Both teams won every game and never trailed at any point in the tournament.

I can't agree with you here. He was great. The Czechs won on shots 40-24.

How can you say that, my friend? Look at the goals at 2:10 and 3:05. One was from the corner. One was a dribbler from the blue line. Same old Bobby Lu. :shakehead

The Team Canada of 2014 is arguably the most dominant team ever assembled, and definitely so in terms of Olympic rosters. They would assuredly beat any of the other Gold Medal teams.

Well, he saved 37 other shots :) and I think the Czechs were the better team in that game. Luongo got his chance to save the day, it wasn't like the defence allowed 20 shots only, like in Sochi.

Fair enough, THF. Roberto Luongo is one of those players you either love or hate with nothing in between. :)
