Huh? He thinks it was a legal hit, and isn't whining about it, I see that as a plus.

if it's a hit that the league looks at and torts said it was cool the league isn't going to be suspension happy. he didn't have a chance to review video. his opinion on it isn't needed BUT i haven't seen context-- all i know is that it's being reported as him endorsing the hit. that's not good in any book-- especially if we have an injured player from it.

he should just keep his mouth shut until he has time to look it over.

same thing happened last season with a dirty hit (on callahan or mcdonagh maybe?) and it was CLEARLY a dirty hit and torts called it clean before seeing the tape

idk just doesn't seem like something he should be the judge of-- at least until he reviews the tapes.

certainly not an excuse for the loss

They haven't reached the level of play they had in the last two years.

Tonight's team resembled the 2009-10 team (which was arguably the worst team since the first lockout) , more so than the last two years.

Bickel needs to go. The guy can't keep of with NHL players. He was a fine stopgap last year, but he's been exposed.

The lines aren't in sync yet. Hope Kreider is ok.

I've been cautiously optimistic about this team since the summer. On paper it looks great, but the bottom 6 just isn't anything special and doesn't have enough skill or speed. It's a mismatch of parts. Chemistry will and has been an issue.

Jason Arnott is still floating out there. He's gritty.

I see this team as a 6th-7th seed if they can figure out how to play together. They need one more scorer to put them over the top. Luckily next year the bottom six will improve.

The problem has and always will be since I've been a Rangers fan Pittsburgh. They've been the one thorn in this team's side the last 23 years.

For some reason, we keep getting pinned in our own zone and can't establish the forecheck. I think this is where we miss Dubi the most to be honest.

We miss Dubi, Prust, and Fedotenko on the forecheck. Halpern, Nash, and Pyatt are players that can forcheck too, but they're not in synch like those three were. They've been apart of this team for two games. I really think once the offense gels we'll start playing better offensively, it's only a matter of time with the talent on this roster.

The way the defense played, however, was unacceptable. I'll give 'em two games to get their playing legs, but from this point on, they have to be better. A lot of the problems this team has had the past two games stems from a bad transition, and the D is largely to blame for it. Of course, the forwards needs to make better passes and decisions on the rush, but the forwards aren't going to have the opportunity to get on the rush if the defenseman can't start the breakout.

Stepan played in Finland and he hasn't looked very good.

Because Derek Stepan isn't a great hockey player. Below average skater, average to below average hands. I've been saying it for years about him.

Man, you sure are a prophet...i'll absolutely take this 2 game stretch over his 50 point campaign and give you kudos!

One more scorer? The Rangers have Nash, Gaborik, Richards, Callahan, and Stepan in their top-6. That was the supposed 'problem' last year, and we added a consistent 30+ goal scorer. That isn't the issue. The issue is passing and setting up in the offensive zone.

If ANYTHING, they need a playmaking winger. That said, I think Hagelin can be that playmaker, and he showed that he was a pretty good set up winger last year, better than any of our other wingers except for Gaborik.

BTW, the Nash trade was a gamble in the sense of locker room chemistry.

Same thing happened to the Rangers after their trip to the 79 Finals with the Barry Beck trade; it changed the locker room and chemistry of the team.

This team seems more sane and Nash is liked more than Beck was, but losing guys like Dubi, Prust, Arty, Feds is a huge change and a lot of these guys like Halper, Pyatt, Asham are two year mercenaries.

Really, some of the posts on the forum are worse than the game the team played sans that awful 6 minute stretch after Hank got pulled.

I can't wait to see some of you on bandwagon after proclaiming us dead in the water.

Sorry, I just don't see it. A playmaker? Hagelin doesn't have great hands, passing skill, or vision. He has great speed and relentlessness. But beyond that I don't see anything as of yet. Maybe it can emerge down the road.

But he hasn't shown it yet.

Right now, the team is unable to roll 3 lines of speedy forechecking. The skill and speed on the bottom six is not great. We'll see if things get better. Team really misses having Anisimov, Feds and Prust on the bottom six. I like Halpern on face-offs. Not sold he's the solution there. And Asham is far less effective than Prust.

I think he showed it last year with Gaborik and Richards. He made plenty of nice passes. With him, though, it's more about getting the puck on the stick of his linemates quickly, and he does that while opening up space. His game leads to playmaking opportunities.

I think he made some occasional nice passes. But it certainly wasn't consistent. His main thing is being a complimentary energy guy who can chase down pucks.

But that isn't a playmaker. The only guy who has shown real potential in that regard is Stepan. Even the verdict is still out on that guy as well.

Hagelin is not a playmaker. He doesn't have the puck possession skills or the vision needed to be a playmaker. He also lacks the size to protect the puck or carry it for any reasonable length of time.

Hagelin's passing in the last two games have led to turnovers, he should probably focus on playing a North-South game for the time being and keep things simple.

Stepan made a nice play on the PK which resulted in Nash's goal, but he has been a total non-factor at even strength. He could not accept a pass to save his life tonight. That line of Cally-Stepan-Gaborik is just a giant cluster**** of suck, they can't generate any offense together.

Yeah. I'm worried about a guy who had 96 points in his first 2 seasons. Lol.

Callahan never worked with Stepan. So maybe Torts should play them on separate lines.

Cally doesn't work with Gabs or Steps. He is a banger. Not saying this as a bad thing, but Cally needs to be put with Boyle or Halpern.

I think he would play much better on those lines.

Don't worry, when he starts putting up points people will conveniently forget their brilliant predictions about his imminent decline.

I thought he played really well with Kreider and Hagelin that one shift they all had together. He definitely has chemistry with Kreider and absolutely none with Callahan. Let's stop the Stepan-Callahan experiment.
