Was poking around on the rangers facebook site and came accross this.

Poking around at some of the trades there were some good ones.

Rangers are all over the biggest trades section and the worst trades section. Fun to go back and look at how some teams were built.

p.s. did a search didnt see anything if its there i apologize.

the best part of the site is the worst trades in history there are definatly some teribad trades.

the gomez for McD trade is listed there.

Dupuis and a 3rd for Bourret

He wasn't even in New York for 3 weeks before being traded again... We traded him for a guy, who was drafted with a pick which was originally ours but we traded to Atlanta + our 1st rounder to move up several spots to pick Staal. Weird that Bourret made it to the Rangers after all, only to be a bust

At the time most on here thought Sather had just made another 'steal' trade and that we were clear winners

Yep. Everyone knew Bourret would be a boom or bust player but if it turned out he was a boom, it would have been a major steal. Dupuis was also an average 3rd liner at the time, nothing like the player he is today. Can't really be upset at that one looking back on it.

Tyutin for Zherdev pissed me off then and still pisses me off now. I have no problem with trading Tyuts (much like the MDZ situation we have now) for a top 6 winger, but it had to be for a reliable winger, which Zherdev was anythinh but

Neil Smith's Oiler fetish swan song:

Ray Ferraro
Nathan Lafayette
Ian Laperriere
Mattias Norstrom
1997 4th round pick (#99-Sean Blanchard)

For

Shane Churla
Jari Kurri
Marty McSorley

The Korpikoski trade was certainly not a good one... but no where near the "worst of all time"; not even the worst Ranger trade of all time.

And as has already been said, can't get pissed about the Dupuis trade given the context at the time. Didn't look like it was awful. Not to mention a big part of what he is today is from being on a line with Crosby or Malkin. The moaning about this one is overblown.

Ryan Hollweg for Andy Bathgate. lulz

We had R.J. Umberger? What happened with that?

Anson Carter for Jaromir Jag, LIRL.

Rights to Marek Zidlicky for Mike Dunham. Wow. There's some gems in there.

Does anyone know who was high up on the Rangers draft board in '05 (aside from Staal obv)?

I was always curious if they would have stayed at 16 (and kept 41) who they might have targeted there.

If they went D again, I'm guessing they would have gone with Parent or Lashoff.

41 might have been interesting if they'd still take Sauer at 40. Wonder if they would have considered Stasny.
