Overall, can't say I'm all that surprised given what we've seen from Werek. Doesn't seem (at this point) like his offense is going to be anything exceptional, and I'd rather have a potential 3rd/4th liner who doesn't seem to have any character issues than a 3rd/4th liner who might.

I like this trade. I like Werek, but he wasn't a great prospect by any means. If this helps improve face-offs then it's a good deal regardless.

Also...

RULE #1: Do not fall in love with prospects, most of the time they will break your heart.

For all of the whiners and confused people about this trade, this article will help you out. It explains why it is a good deal for us, Lindberg is a good player, u need to look past the points. SEL is a hard league, read this article and you'll see he is a good player

Sounds a lot like Samuel Pahlsson, nationality included.

I was just thinking about posting something like this. Now while I've never seen this guy play, it sounds like he has a Pahlsson-esque game.

Samuel Pahlsson may not be winning any major trophies at season's end, but we all saw how much of an impact a player like that can have when Niedermeyer-Pahlsson-Moen absolutely locked down Heatley-Spezza-Alfredsson in 2007. If Lindberg can do that kind of thing for us, then sign me up.

The Rangers brass clearly didn't like Werek and his attitude. The Rangers have shifted towards a different direction where it isn't all about skill, but about demeanor and attitude.

They clearly had no plans for re-signing Werek, so they traded him before they'd lose his rights and got Lindberg, a good young player who has potential. He also brings to the table, what the Rangers need/want. He is a great defensive minded player, wins face-offs, has a good attitude, and can score goals. Great deal for the Rangers IMO

Love this trade. Love Lindberg. He was one of Sweden's best players in this past WJC after being drafted this past draft. I wanted him at the draft badly.

He plays a hard-nosed game, is a very hard-worker, battles all over the ice and has good offensive awareness. He is on a VERY good development curve as he is, defensively, NHL ready right now. He will be able to create offense from defense and is a VERY good skater.

Comparable players:
Mike Peca, Chris Drury.

I think he has 2nd line center upside while his downside is that of a solid 3rd line center. I think he will be better than Pahlson.

He also played with Fasth in the WJC.

I liked Werek. I thought he would bring some grit to the team with his size. But with his injuries, if it is true they were unsure whether to sign him at all, this is a GREAT deal.

I like both of these players so I'm not too bothered by this deal. All things considered, it's a very minor thing.

Good trade. Lindberg is like a poor man's Stepan. He's very smart, good skater, patient on the ice, excellent playmaker. He has a better shot than Stepan, hits harder and is better on face-offs.

Granted, his playmaking, vision, hockey sense is not as good as Stepan, but they are all above average.

He was suggested by some in Europe to be drafted in the first round. Despite lasting into the second round, Lindberg had a good season in Sweden, establishing himself as a regular among adults while he was still a teenager.

The Rangers got a better prospect in this trade. People shouldn't be upset just because Werek is gone. We got an improvement.

Plus, and this is important, despite the fact that they are virtually the same age, because of the draft cutoff date, Lindberg was drafted in 2010 and Werek in 2009. That means the Rangers have an extra year to watch a player before determining whether he's worth signing.

By then, both of their development will be more advanced and it will be easier to tell if they are worth signing.

Good trade!

i never felt Werek was going to be a part of this organization. Didnt care for the pick when it was made, dont care about this trade right now unless Lindberg becomes a real gem, which i doubt. im very meh on this.

Am I wrong in remembering the organization talking up Werek's leadership and maturity after he was drafted? He was a player that I was looking forward to seeing, but haven't actually seen much of so I haven't formed any kind of connection. Like Jonathan said, I'm fine with this if it means more Swedes in the system.

No matter what you think about Ranger management, they have an uncanny knack to know when to cut bait.

That Sanguinetti trade was excellent. We already got Jesper Fasth with one draft pick we got for him and we still have a second rounder in 2011 we got for him.

• His mother’s cousin, Jan Erixon, has coached Lindberg throughout minor hockey and has had a big influence on his career – Erixon was drafted 30th overall in 1981 by the Rangers and he played 10 seasons in New York (1983-93).

He is related to Jan Erixon.

Solid trade.

Dump some dead-weight guys, bring in a specialist or two. 69% on faceoffs is absolutely ridiculous in any league. We need the help on faceoffs.

Remember all the outrage on the board when the Sang trade was made? haha!
