This also gives the Rangers flexibility to trade Halak at the deadline for assets if he plays well in the backup role. Considering what Drury was able to get for Georgiev days before he would have become a FA anyway it's not the worse strategy in the world.

Rangers are in win-now mode. You want Halak as your backup heading into the playoffs. There's no way they got him to trade him unless the Rangers somehow are out of a playoff spot by then.

I hope Garand doesn't lose too many games to Louis but good vet signing for HFD. We need the young team to get to the playoffs and have a go at the Calder Cup too. Would pay dividends on prospect development.

AHL goaltending tandems always have a more even split than NHL ones. You can't play an AHL goalie 60+ games like you can with a stud NHL goalie because the AHL's Holy Grail of Scheduling is Weekend Home Dates, so teams have a back-to-back almost every weekend, plus the occasional back-to-back-to-back
