Confirmed with Link: Rangers sign goaltender Callum Tung

Tiny sample size to be handing out a contract. But sure. With Garand i really dont understand it though.
I think with Domingue having a shit season and Garand playing very well, next year they'll have Garand start the bulk of the games and have Boyko (or Ollas) serve as the backup. So they'd need one more goalie if they wanted six under contract. I guess Tung will be in the ECHL with Ollas.

There were a few Flames blogs that cited 32 Thoughts today with stating Calgary was among the NHL teams interested in this guy. I don't listen to podcasts but someone may want to check it out.

I’d assume the rangers find a veteran to replace Domingue assuming Domingue doesn’t come back.

Tung was also very good in the BCHL last season. 22-14-1 with a 2.80 and .917 is good in that league, but then very impressively he was 11-6-1 with a 2.11 and .940 in the playoffs for Alberni Valley.

The last time I remember the Rangers signing a goalie out of nowhere it was Alexandar Georgiev.

Didn't Cam Talbot get signed out of nowhere or were other teams interested?

Calgary wanted him too apparently.

It's a bit unusual that at least two NHL teams would pursue him so hard after only one college year....and then send him to the ECHL? Might as well let him continue playing college. I think the Rangers scouts really think they see something. That they think he's NHL goalie material. Maybe even more so than Garand. That would be a reason to sign him after only one college season.

I like this move. It's a small sample size but he pretty much owned those 16 games. The fact that he had a .933 sv pct over 16 games but only won 10 is humorous. It tells me that his team relied on him A LOT in those games. At 21 years old, he still has 2-3 year of development in front of him as well.

Thanks to him UConn did surprisingly (unexpectedly) well this year in a couple of tournaments.

Should fit right in with this organization!
