Confirmed with Link: Rangers Sign Defenseman Conor Allen

Not surprising, but we were short on defensemen prospects, so this is a good signing.

McIlrath
Sjkei
Noreau
Allen
Andersson
Ceresnak

Now let's get Klassen signed!

Sean Collins, Logan Pyett and Mike Vernace are UFAs this year. Blake Parlett, Steven Delisle and Jyri Niemi are RFAs. In other words, this signing is about organizational depth more than anything else.

We should re-sign Vernace, Parlett and most definitely Pyett, who's a very good AHL defenseman. Who knows, if he's a late bloomer, Pyett might see some NHL time. Worse defensemen went on to make it. His age is working against him, but he's not a bad player. Vernace and Parlett are good for the AHL as good puck moving defensemen. I don't see either making the NHL though.

From whose perspective? Everything I've heard about McIlrath has been positive thus far.

Just my opinion. Yeah I hear good things as well but they grab Hamrlik and Gilroy. McI hasn't even seen one game,I'm just trying to read between the lines here, from my view

Not saying that's all he will be,so I should have said it better. Basically I have a feeling he is going to never be utilized. Why hasn't he got a shot over Eminger,Gilroy even. 40 yr old Hamrlik

Apparently they don't have faith in the kid at all

He's a young defenseman trying to develop. He's not NHL ready yet. Hamrlik and Girloy suck, but I don't think it's an indication of McIlrath playing badly, or anything. If they went out and acquired a young, sizable RH D, then that might be an indication of something, but Gilroy and Hamrlik are gone at the end of the season.

Well lets hope that's the case.. Yet I hear rumors of Byfuglien and Boyle.so idk, this club is funny with how they do things at times

I have no problem resigning the 3 d-men to AHL contracts ,it makes no sense signing any of them to NHL deals.

The club is doing the right thing with MacIlrath he is a solid prospect no need to rush him and have him turn in to John Kordic.

So...... how long are they going to wait? Because next thing we know, Lundy might no longer be on this team after next year. I'm assuming they drafted him to clear the crease and protect Lundqvist WHICH NO ONE ON THIS TEAM CAN DO maybe except Sauer.

How long exactly is my point. Ok so they wait two more years, bring him up and say oh,he ain't NHL ready, send him down,lol...it's what I can def see happening man. Idk what Henke has to do with anything, bit off topic

We will see Mcilrath more than likely after we lose 3 our if the next 4 or worse and fall to 10 or 11 th since their appears to be no end in sight to the inability towcore against not Tampa or Philly

He has played half a year in the AHL

Sauer two and a half years,

Girardi a year older and one and half years in the minors,

McDonough a year old and still over half a year

Jeff Beukeboom a year and a half in the ahl

Honestly, the only thing I could think of when reading this was "WTF?!"

Good post, those guys are just holding the fort until MCI is ready. Unfortunately they did a horrible job of finding a 'crease specialist' while MCI matures.

Jeff Beukeboom, every Ranger fans benchmark for crease clearers, didn't play a full NHL season until he was 22. MCI is 20. This is the kind of guy we as fans have to be patient with.

What is this comment? He's been playing great in Hartford.

I would not say great. He's been good for a 20 yr old, I'm happy enough with that this season. Now lets hope he doesn't suffer any setbacks and is in great shape for 2014.

Like I said before, this kid Allen is probably just a young two way body for the farm team. Cost nothing but the contract slot. It'd be nice to use these slots on guys with a little more upside.

It makes quite a lot of sense actually. Our AHL team is going to have to have some veteran leadership on the backline---this year, next year and every year into the future and you're not going to sign any proven AHL/professional d-men to AHL contracts (they have their hopes and dreams too)--they'll simply sign with other franchises which will hurt the development of your better prospects--sticking them in situations they're not ready to handle--especially those just turning pro. Personally I think Pyett has had an excellent year and Vernace not far behind and to be honest from what little I've seen I'd prefer either over Gilroy. Parlett's a younger player and this has been his best season which tells us what?--mostly that he's continuing to get better--whether that means he'll be a regular NHL d-man is one thing but what you look for in any prospect is his continuing to improve--when he stops doing that--that's what you got. Parlett is getting better.

McIlrath missed the first half of the season with a dislocated kneecap. This is his first pro season. Occasionally a defenseman comes out of junior hockey and goes straight to the NHL bypassing the AHL but those are real exceptions and almost always there are real growing pains for those teams rushing those players in. It's a tough position to learn to play right at the NHL level--your mistakes are very magnified. Reading some of this **** gives me a headache. The discussions over the years about the development of defensemen have been numerous. It's like everything slides by some people. Be thankful if McIlrath is a full time regular in two years. It takes time.
