will never forget when this guy gifted us Martin St. Louis' OT winner in game 4 against Montreal. Now he's a Ranger. sweet.

We ALWAYS sign a few so-so and possibly finished veterans to short, cheap deals to bring in as competition in as competition in
camp. There is absolutely no guarantee this guy is even on the ****ing roster come the start of the season.

His stats are pretty good
60 pts in 81 games
52 in 79
48 in 82

From the ages of 25-28. He'll be 31 this season.

That being said, not a terrible pickup as a 4C option. I still would have rather signed a winger like Hartnell or Pouliot and moved Miller back to C, if we're not acquiring a top 9 center via trade

Awesome signing! His play along the boards is elite.

I'm sure the plan is still to acquire another C via trade

Meh. Not a fan. Think this is a Paille-type move. Think he'll battle it out with the Hartford crew for the 4C spot

Last year we signed Gerbe and Jooris and neither played a role. Gerbe didn't even make the team. We gave Lapierre a PTO and a shot to earn a deal. The year before we have Megna, Stoll, Kabanov on a PTO. Megan goes to the AHL, Stoll is gone a quarter of the way into the season, K2 doesn't get a deal. The year before you have Lombardi, Malone, Mueller. Lombardi is probably your best comp and he doesn't make the team and goes to Europe.

Again, the assumption that this guy even makes the team, let alone plays an integral part, may be premature. Let's see the terms and who else the team signs before freaking out that this guy is somehow going to be getting looks as the 1C or 2C.

I'm thinking this too. I'm wondering if Gorts can package Hayes for an upgrade. I don't know about anyone else but I have serious doubts regarding Hayes' play the last couple of seasons.

FWIW Brooks says this is for $1M, and as RB pointed out, he can be waived and sent to Hartford without any impact on the cap.

He's not really a 50 point player. He's had a 52 point season 3 years ago and before that he once hit for 60. He's older now and he was injured a lot last year. Not a particularly good playoff player either. Last year 14 points in 49 games and plagued by injuries.

At $1 mil per--that's not a huge commitment. OTOH I don't see him as much of an upgrade of Brandon Pirri. He might be useful at times....but he's not going to solve our center problem really. He's a career 50/50 face-off guy.

If Zibanejad and Hayes can take a step forward and become more productive all around players things might be okay--but it's two ifs.

Desharnais sucks but you want Grigorenko? Don't understand why some people want him, incredibly unimpressive player. At least Desharnais has had productive NHL seasons in the past.

I'll hedge my bets on the 23 year old to look better after getting out of the two ********* franchises in the NHL being better than the small aging DD. I mean it's only $1M so whatever, but I'm not crazy about it. Wouldn't be surprised if he's waived by January
