Rangers likely want a young player back which I doubt Dallas would do

Bourque?
Personally, I think Bourque is too much from Dallas' side, I'm sure there is some sort of middle ground here though. Kakko would fit in with all the Finns in the Stars dressing room

Rutherford basically said they’re making a move soon, something to keep an eye on

I’m gonna play dueling banjos with Bern:

Krieder to DAL for Bischel /2
R Smith (50%) to TBL for Sheary/2
Lindgren (50%) to CAL for a 2nd
Mika+ to Van for Miller

Whatcha got Bern? You scared?

If your expectation for Kakko is a third liner, he's a decent player. The challenge being the draft position, likely makes it hard for NYR to trade him for third line player return though. I'm not really sure what their expectation of a return is.

I mean if they really want to shake things up they could get a king's ransom for a retained Panarin, right?

If you assume he unconditionally waives his nmc, which he likely won’t. While he gets to choose or veto the destination, there can’t be a real bidding war.

If it's true that Kreider will likely be traded then I can see Dallas interested. They have yet to fill the void from Pavelski leaving.

The Rangers should fire Peter Laviolette and hire Springfield coach Daniel Tkaczuk to replace him.

Too bad about the news that Artemi Panerin has quietly asked for a trade. He has also invoked his NTC allowing a trade only to the Philly Flyers or LA Kings. Philly has offered a 2nd round pick, but NYR doesn't want him in the division, so it looks like LA for a 3rd rounder.

What would be the plan exactly then - just tank this season and look to be competitive again next year?

They're coming off a President's Trophy winning season and two playoff series wins last year before losing to the eventual champs. It's a largely veteran roster and they just extended their superstar goalie for the next 8 years. They also opened up a bunch of cap space with the Trouba trade. Seems they have to continue to go all-in on trying to win now.

I'm not sure approaching Panarin and even asking him to waive his NMC, when he specifically wanted to play for this team, is even a wise move. Forcing players out that don't want to leave hasn't really been working out well for them lately.

Not much of a shake up if that’s all the Rangers do.

Panarin would have to be worth a lot more than a second or a third, no?
