I get that we have little depth at G in the system. But we've also seen that goalies don't generally have much value when you want/need to move one...and conversely don't usually cost a ton if you need to acquire one.

Does anyone know if he gets any international looks?

Doesn't seem like he's played all that much in the O. Alex Nedeljkovic, 37th overall to the Canes, was selected to the U-18 roster. Edwin Minney was the other selection, and also is draft eligible.

I would feel a lot better about the pick if he was truly showcased -- No.1 starter, clear-cut shot at big tournaments.

Feels like a project, but In Gordie We Trust.

Maybe they feel he slipped bc he hasn't gotten to be fully showcased yet? Just bc we haven't seen him yet doesn't mean that we won't.

Big, good reflexes, needs help in the technical aspect… I just hope this isn't Lafleur 2.0. Allaire loved Montoya and Lafleur… he didn't do much with either.

On the bright side, it'd be a lot of fun having a puck moving goalie for once. Lundqvist is mediocre at best and Richter was HORRIFIC.

I wasnt aware Clark's job is to draft with the Wolfpack's best interests in mind

Its not. But if Talbot moves on next year, the org has nothing at goalie behind Lundqvist.

And you do realize that Lundqvist isnt an immortal who will never be hurt and will play forever, correct?

If Lundqvist goes down in the next 7 years, I'd take my chances with acquiring a middling NHL goaltender than drafting so high for a guy that might never make it. Strategically it just makes little sense.

halverson wont be playing in the NHL in the next 2 years anyways so talbots situation doesnt matter.

So in your opinion saying screw having any goalies in the system, they can find a FA replacement for cheap is a better strategy?

And this is why fans arent GMs.... No foresight at all.

A goalie drafted today probably won't be a starter for 7 years.

Or possibly a starter at all.

So, while we have the best goalie in the world, why dont they try to go fill the 18 other roster spots on any given night within the next few years?

I dont know anything about these prospects. I would've been fine with any D, C, LW, or RW drafted. Any single name.

Thats probably a better philosophy than using your highest pick in the 2014 draft and hoping this guy makes it.

I didnt say he would be, and I didnt say Talbots situation changed anything.

The point remains that in another couple years this organization could be absolutely bone dry in terms of any sort of goalies. Cant just say screw we never need a goalie.

Last year people seemed pissed that we didn't use one of our 3rds on a goalie, because we needed one...

I think we all knew a goalie was coming at some point. While people may be upset we used our first pick in this draft on one, the reality is there are no sure things at #59.

As opposed to using the pick on a different position and hoping that guy makes it?

I fail to see a connection.

You are just whining because they didnt take a position you wanted.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that he was invited to US Junior camp.

Yeah, we should only use super late picks on goalies.

There's like a 50% chance one of those turns out to be another Lundqvist :sarcasm:

Eh, you don't draft based on today's needs. Not at the back of the second anyway. You draft based on best player available. This guy sounds intriguing. He fills an organizational need. I'm okay with it.

Theres a lot more spots on the roster for other positions. Is that tough to understand?

Can't complain about my team going with the BPA in the draft.

If you're drafting to fill major holes in your NHL roster in the back if the 2nd you're in trouble.

None of know how Hank will be playing 5 years from now. At around that time this kid could be our backup or even starter. Probably not, but you never know.

And if he gets hurt we are screwed. Look at what we had backing up when Talbot got hurt.

My thoughts exactly. The guys you're picking at the back of the second aren't going to contribute for three or four years, most likely. Rather than drafting on what you think you'll need in the future, you just take best guy on the board.
