Two teams needing to shake things up after disappointing seasons that we heard from multiple sources were in serious talks earlier about at least one of these guys.

Two young guys maybe looking for a change of scenery for two young guys maybe in need of a change of scenery

To New York:
* JJ Peterka W, 23, GP: 77 27/41/68 RFA: $0.9M, Projected $7-8M for term
* Bo Byram D, 23, GP: 82 7/31/48 RFA: QA $4.2M, Projected $6-8M for term

To Buffalo:
* Alexis Lafreniere W, 23, GP: 82 17/48/25 Signed at $7.4M for 7 years
* K'Andre Miller D, 25, GP: 74 7/20/27 RFA: QA $4.6M, Projected $5.5-6.5M for term

Contracts, ages and positions roughly match up. Rangers get a more skill, the Sabres get more size.

I can see where you're coming from in a JJP/Laf swap. JJP is a pure scorer, which we have plenty of. Laf is more the playmaker type.....which is decidedly an understated need.

But Miller for Byram? Woof. Seems like a push defensively and a straight loss on the offensive end. Don't like that swap in any way shape or form.

Counter-offer:

to New York Rangers
Peterka
Byram
Clifton
Krebs

( cap is approx $19m estimated )

to Buffalo Sabres
Lafreniere
K Miller
Borgen
Rempe / Brisson / fringe forward

( cap is approx $19m estimated )

... then NYR trade Clifton + pick for Lauzon
OR
... then NYR trade Clifton + Krebs + pick for Pulock

This probably makes more sense for Buffalo than the OP (in my opinion anyways), though the Rangers blueline is too unbalanced towards offense-first D unless that second trade is also made to re-balance things.

Soucy - Fox
Byram - ( Pulock / Lauzon )
Vaakanainen - Schneider
Jones

Miller - Dahlin
Power - Borgen
Samuelsson - ( Bernard-Docker / UFA )
Bryson
callup = Ryan Johnson

Somehow you managed to make the counter offer worse than the original.

Maybe if it was Laf+Miller for Peterka lol.

Feels like there could be something to work with around Peterka/Byram and Laf/Schneider, I don’t hate it as a neutral fan and trying to assess each teams needs

Still think Buffalo is giving up the two best players however but it’s not that far off

Darche having the Isles make a deal with the Rangers would be…quite the start to his tenure, considering that hasn’t happened since like, the Eric Cairns days I don’t think.

You think it's better for Buffalo to have Krebs and Clifton than it is for them to have Borgen and Rempe? Clifton is a pure 3rd pair guy, whereas Borgen is now a decent #4/5D who is better defensively than Clifton and doesn't look out of place on a 2nd pair.

All we keep hearing about is how Buffalo needs a right handed 2nd pair D that can actually play defense to play with Power. Voila.

Overrating Borgen. Rempe isn't even an NHL hockey player. The main Point is Peterka>>Laf and Byram>>Miller.

Peterka and Byram for Lafreniere and Cuylle will be fair offer in my opinion.

If NY does not like it Sabres can get competitive offer from some other team.

The worst part is Soucy on the top pair ooof

I'm suing him for the PTSD he gave me as a nucks fan.
But ya this sucks for the Sabres.
Two rangers living of their hype as prospects.

I said before on our own board that I think Buffalo is going to ask for a ton, and more than Schneider, as they should. I don't really get the value for NYR when it comes to swapping Miller and Bryam right now. For all the crap Miller gets with his defense decisions, Bryam is at least twice as bad. His even strength defense is simply atrocious and I don't think NYR are in a position to get worse on the backend when it comes to defending. However, I suppose Sullivan might utilize Byram more in a pinching scenario to take advantage of his skill. It'll be interesting to see what the powerplay does next season without Peca. Without a Kreider trade and using the same setup, the forward swap becomes a lateral move.

Islanders have only traded with the Rangers once in the last fifty years and it was a trade involving a sixth round pick. This is absolutely not happening.

You're gonna trade for K'Andre Miller for size? KAM is the hockey version of looking across a room and seeing an absolutely stunning woman. I mean amazing. Then when you go talk to her, she has a voice like Fran Drescher, always talks politics, and a set of teeth that looks like someone smacked a longneck off on the end of the bar. In short, he isn't what he appears to be. I hope he is traded at the draft.
