Let's see your Report cards for the team this year! I'm going to separate them from the regular season and Playoffs.

Blais - n/a

Chytil:
Regular Season: C+
Playoffs: B+
Had a lackluster regular season for sure, not much improvement from the year before, but come the playoffs he took his game to another level which was great to see, hence why I gave him a high grade for the playoffs.

Copp:
Regular Season: A+
Playoffs: B-
Came to the team at the deadline and was amazing, clicked with Bread so well. Unforntalely he got injured late in the season and it doesn't look like he was ever healthy again for the playoffs. Despite that, he still put up decent numbers in the postseason.

Gauthier:
Regular Season: D-
Playoffs: n/a
I think the Gauthier experiment is finally over.

Goodrow:
Regular Season: C+
Playoffs: C
His first half of the season he was good, then he literally fell off a cliff and was barely able to produce. Was brought to the team for his playoff hockey but unfortunately, he was also injured for most of it.

Hunt:
Regular Season: C
Playoffs: n/a
Not a fan of him, he gets played way too high up in the lineup than he should, I know that isn't his fault but it is what it is. He's an ok 4th liner that I wouldn't shed a tear if was moved in the offseason.

Kakko:
Regular Season: B-
Playoffs: B
Another player who unfortunately battled injuries during the season. Thought he made good improvements on his gave overall (esp defense). When given the chance on the 2nd line he produced, but was bounced around too much. On the most consistent line we had in the playoffs due to his ability to hold onto the puck deep in the zone. Big season coming up for him next year in terms of development.

Kreider:
Regular Season: A+
Playoffs: C+
Can't really say anything bad about his regular season, unfortunately though he did not lead the way we hoped in the playoffs and have quite a few of his disappearing acts that he has been prone to in his career.

Lafrenière:
Regular Season: B
Playoffs: A
Still learning, and improved as the season went along, but we got a nice insight of what is to come with him in the playoffs. Big game player, leader, he didn't take a night off. The kid is going to be special.

McKegg:
Regular season: F
Playoffs: n/a
Go away.

Motte:
Regular season: B+
Playoffs: B+
Great workhorse player. Hope we can resign him somehow. Perfect 4th line player.

Panarin:
Regular season: A+
Playoffs: C-
Amazing regular season, but he HAD to have been hurt in the playoffs, he was a completely different player, all his creativity disappeared.

Reaves:
Regular Season: C
Playoffs: B
Older player. Thought he had a few really good games early in the playoffs to wear down the other team but it became too much for him and he couldn't keep it up.

Rooney:
Regular season: C
Playoffs: D
Yea he only played a couple of games in the playoffs but he was terrible in those, should have never been put in the lineup.

Strome:
Regular season: B
Playoffs: D+
Thank you for your service.

Vatrano:
Regular season: A-
Playoffs: B
Great trade pickup, also played great when we first got him. Was very hit or miss in the playoffs, however.

Zibanejad
Regular season: A
Playoffs: A
One of the few vets who played lights out for most of the playoffs. Took him a bit to get going but he didn't slow down much till the very end.

---

Braun:
Regular Season: n/a
Playoffs: B
Thought he was very solid once he replaced Nemeth and was a HUGE upgrade over him.

Fox:
Regular season: A-
Playoffs: A
Yea he didn't have a norris winning season but he still played great. Definitely was battling some injuries since Jan on but still a fantastic dmen in both ends. Was having a Leetch type playoffs for awhile.

Hajek:
Regular season: C-
Playoffs: n/a
The Hajek experiment has also come to an end.

Lindgren
Regular season: B
Playoffs: A
Had ups and downs in the regular season but was a complete warrior for us in the playoffs.

Miller:
Regular season: B+
Playoffs: A-
Another young player who improved so much from last year. Still prone to a mistake but overall he had one hell of a year.

Nemeth:
Regular season: C
Playoffs: F
This guy should never play another playoff game in his life. Almost cost us the series vs the Pens.

Schneider:
Regular Season: B-
Playoffs: C+
He's learning, thrown into the fire and didn't look back. He will get much more physical as he gets older and more confident. Was playing a lot of safe hockey to try not and make mistakes. Looked overwhelmed in the playoffs at times. Bright future ahead of him.

Trouba:
Regular Season: B+
Playoffs: B
There were some serious high points for him in the playoffs, and some serious low points. I rounded it out in the middle somewhere. Those hits he threw were series changers for sure.

---

Georgiev:
Regular season: D-
Playoffs: n/a
Please pack your shit and get off this team.

Shesterkin:
Regular Season: A+
Playoffs: A
Nothing needs to be said. He is the best.

Ok all done, that took a lot longer than I thought it would

Panarin:
Regular season: A+
Playoffs: C-
Amazing regular season, but he HAD to have been hurt in the playoffs, he was a completely different player, all his creativity disappeared.
Not sure we can chalk up Panarin's playoffs to injuries. And his creativity didn't disappear, it was taken away from him. We saw in the bubbler and we saw it too often in these playoffs. Zip and Fox were able to change how they played in the playoffs. Panarin couldn't. Or worse, wouldn't.

That's pretty alarming then, but I still remember him dominating in the playoffs when he was on the Jackets. I guess we'll find out soon enough but i'd be floored if he wasn't playing with some sort of significant injury. And if he wasn't then I would be very concerned that we have him another 6 years or whatever it is.

That is indeed a big concern.

I mean you can also clearly tell Panarin was not skating as fast as usual. Something was clearly hampering him during the playoffs.

Nice job. I agree with just about everything.

The bubble was unimportant, all players came off 5 months of no hockey. It was more like preseason. I agree he wasn't great and dont chalk it up to injury but using the play in round to judge if a player was ready for post season or not is not a true representation of their play.
It's crazy how people still point to the bubble games as if they actually meant something or that we could actually learn something from them.

The bubble was unimportant? Really. I guess games that were the right to go on to the playoffs are unimportant.

It is amazing what people see and don't see and or choose to ignore the obvious and then fall back on his 96 pts # to say what a great season he had . He could have had a Monster season if he played harder /skated harder and probably rack up another 30 pts easily with this club's pp and talent . This guy oozes talent out of every pore but unfortunately he just does not match it with effort . So many similarities to Kovalev . One thing for certain....he is no Kucherov .

I would give him a grade of B+ for reg season and a C- for the playoffs . If I was his teacher I would write on his report card that he is capable of much much more if he applied himself .

The bubble was unimportant? Really. I guess games that were the right to go on to the playoffs are unimportant.
They were unimportant from an analytical standpoint. There is zero to learn from when we are talking about 3 games played after a 5 month layoff, played in empty arenas. Many players didn't even have access to a gym in those 5 months. Panarin sucking in the bubble should be treated as insignificant when trying to point to a trend for that very reason.

Goodrow's playoff grade is way too low. The guy came back in and made an immediate impact. Giving him a C is not true. Absolutely should be a B for his intanibles.

Everyone was playing under the same conditions. Whether you want to admit it or not, Carolina upped their level of play (even in an empty building!) and Panarin did not. He wasn't able to consistently raise his level of play in these playoffs.

The fact is, there has to be some concern that our highest paid player seems to be a shell of himself in the playoffs than he is in the regular season. But keep digging and you'll convince yourself there isn't.

I agree with mostly everything, would make Kreider a little higher in the playoffs like a B/B+, he made some big plays and scored some key goals in the playoffs, including 3 GWGs

Kakko is rated too high for the playoffs, he was the weakest link on the "kids line". Didn't deserve to get scratched but still not the best force on that line, far from it.

Also, Copp and Goodrow maybe a little higher for the playoffs, both battling injuries but made nice impacts.

LOL @ Strome. "Thank you for your service" lol.

These ratings are garbage.

This post gets an F.

Different players reacted differently to incredibly unique circumstances that will never be repeated again? Shocker.

Panarin had 1 bad playoff run. In Columbus he was great for them in the playoffs. For all we know Panarin was injured this time around. We won't know because the org is hush hush about everything. If he is a no show in next year's playoffs, I will begin to be concerned. But from my POV is pointless to glean anything from the Canes series.

I love how everyone gives McKegg an F, when he clearly is an extra forward. Not everyone is going to light it up, and every team has a few of them. When he played he showed effort and didnt take shifts off, he didnt just mail it in. He is what it is and he actually gave this team some important minutes in a really good stretch of hockey when the roster was depleted with injuries/covid and they actually continued to win.

For the player he is Id give him a C-, because he did struggle with the puck when in previous seasons he was a little better in that area. He killed the offense but blame the organization for playing him, not the player. Cant believe I'm actually defending McKegg, but I just want to make a point because its kinda silly how fans pile on certain players.

you're right. give the organization an F, for consistently icing a player who adds practically little to no value, other than taking a shift without scoring on his own goalie
