I can’t imagine that Drury started shopping Trouba with out knowing whether or not he would accept a trade to Detroit or another destination.

If he did decline, would that cause them to pivot and trade Lindgren instead? If that’s the case, be a dick Jacob!
It is standard practice for gms to find trades before approaching players about a clause. Literally look at markstrom last year. Conroy was getting creamed bc he went to markstrom about trading him before he even had the deal finalized.

Most players and agents take the tact of don't bother coming to me about waiving unless you've got something for me to actually consider. Same thing has been said/is happening with marner in Toronto.

We know that drury and Trouba’s met already (per Kaplan.) I would think that he knows/knew where Trouba stood after that convo.

That doesn’t mean that JT can’t or won’t change his mind but if he made it clear that he didn’t want to move, there’s no real
Need to pursue a conversation with another team.

Again, watch that type of contracts Tanev and Zadorov get. Those guys are rumored to get 6+ years. Not every team wants to tie themselves to a player for that long. Trading for a retained Trouba may be the preferred route and when healthy, he’s still a good 4/5 d-man who plays physical and provides leadership.

I think you all got dupped again. I bet the team asked for the clause. I bet Drury maybe took some calls here and there. I think these facts led to the speculation that it's close and the insiders pushed it further for clicks. I don't think there is a trade.

If there is though, there being some sort of "time limit" is fake. You can go over the cap by Troubas salary. It means nothing.

So what if they met?

They could meet and Drury says hey we may need to make a move bc Schneider has stepped up into a role and we need to get him space to grow.

Trouba says okay, I get it.

End of convo.

Doesn't mean trouba wants to be dealt or is going to help the process. Again, if the thought process here is that he's going to go to Detroit and Detroit isn't going to be on his NTC on Monday then there's literally no reason why any deal needs to be held up until Monday. Trouba leaving Detroit off of his NTC is the same as accepting/allowing a trade to happen which he can do today.

If you know anything about troubas agent it should be that he is manipulative and borderline dirty in how he operates for his clients. He does not do teams any favors and will always do whatever for his client to the fullest extent.

I'm not saying that this trade is not going to happen, I'm just stressing that just because there's momentum or it's being talked about or whatever the hell is being reported it doesn't actually mean anything especially when it comes to how his agent acts at times.

Tanev and zadorov have unfortunately been better players the best 2 years than trouba.

It's saying here take this worse version bc the contract is shorter so he can suck for you for less time. The other guys will have a few productive years before the wheels fall off and by then the cap is up big and their percentage of cap on those contracts is much less.

If trouba is going to leave Detroit off his list then there is no reason this HAS to wait for Monday.

If trouba doesn't want to leave NYR then all he and his agent need to do it's build out his nt list to tie Drury. It's not that hard to id 16 teams throughout the league that probably wouldn't trade for him anyways. So all he needs to do is add the 15 other teams to his list that might trade for him and then Drury is locked.

If trouba doesn't want to be traded he just submits a list like this
Ntc Anaheim
Boston
Ntc Buffalo
Ntc Calgary
Carolina
Ntc Chicago
Colorado
Ntc Columbus
Dallas
Ntc Detroit
Edmonton
Florida
Los Angeles
Minnesota
Ntc Montreal
Ntc Nashville
New Jersey
NYI
Ntc Ottawa
Ntc Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Ntc St. Louis
Ntc San Jose
Seattle
Tampa
Ntc Toronto
Ntc Utah
Ntc Washington
Winnipeg
Vancouver
Vegas

I've virtually landlocked him into staying in NYR by accounting for teams available cap space for his contract, team need for the position, team focus on analytics, and just using a brain about who would/wouldn't actually add him (like Winnipeg isn't trading for him).

The issue if he does this is the NYR can still waive him. Maybe no one takes his full hit, but does he really want to spin that carnival wheel vs working w the NYR to find a trade?

We basically hammered down Gaboriks door at the 11th hour to get him to waive his NTC a season and a half before the cup finals so I’m not convinced that forcing Trouba out is going to somehow be demoralizing to the roster

Listen to the 32 thoughts Friedman just released (like 10 mins ago) and then you can apologize...

This isn't as cut and dry as you and other want it to be. Trouba and Kurt boy can make this very difficult for nyr to pull off

Someone mentioned Oscar Soderblom earlier today. I could see that. He had a good stint in the NHL and then injuries this year kind of threw him off. 6’8, LW. Assuming Edstrom can play center that would be a nice addition to that 4th line.

Soderblom-Edstrom-________

Perhaps find a speedy PIA to play in that RW spot for cheap as a UFA.

Friedman just released a solo 32t and he touches on exactly what I put in this post.

Either way it sounds like trouba is pumping the brakes a little bit on a trade. Now it gets interesting...

It’s funny because I agree that Trouba wouldn’t net a 1st this summer, but I am quite positive he could at next years TDL (with retention ofc).

Unfortunately they made the guy the Captain so the odds of it happening mid playoff run are quite slim.

Really concerning that Goodrow and Trouba are so blindsided that the rangers want to move them when they are wildly overpaid on their best days. Country club. Even more of a reason I’d like him gone
Even if he doesn’t get traded, Drury just gave the country club a wake-up call. I know it’s eye roll worthy to bring it up, but I guarantee you we won’t be seeing djzbad playing a major festival like he did last summer. Good on the GM imo.
