Glad he's back. Helped Hartford quite a bit and relieved some of the pressure on McIlrath to bear the brunt of the fighting role.

Still don't see much of an NHL future unless he can really up his skating, and at nearly 25 this could be a really important season for him.

He was ok in Hartford, nothing special. Probably won't play any meaningful NHL hockey unless he is a late bloomer.

As far as I remember he was a little invisible when he took his turn in New York this past season. Didn't drop the gloves at all. Could have been at the behest of the coaching staff, or I'm sure he just wanted to optimize the minutes he could get trying to show what he's got.

Either way, this is a good deal for Hartford. As another poster said, nothing wrong with someone taking some of the bouts off of McIlrath's hands.

On the outlook for a turn with NYR this season, I think it would be a mistake to give Mash a shot before we give Haley one.

The Rangers conditional trades are usually based on signing the player. Cap Geek has Mashinster as a UFA. He would be a group 6. The player needs to be at least 25,played 3 or more pro seasons and has not played 80 NHL games. Mashinster doesn't turn 25 until September so he will be a group II. Looks like if the Rangers qualify him,they give up a 7th. If they don't,they don't lose the pick.

I know it's conditional. It could be conditional on NHL games played or qualifying for Group VI etc.
