8.5 Mill for a friggin goalie past his prime. This team is done for. Should've traded him and gone for Talbot. Cheaper, better, younger, money for offense. A goalie can't score goals!!!

How more wrong could you be? He's just entering his prime right now. :help:

Eek... Glad to have him, and think it was the right move to sign him, but 8.5 million buys a lot of scoring talent...

$8.5M also buys a lot of saves, in this case.

Relax people, its a $1.7M annual raise for him. This team needs to get away from the mentality that cap space is going to buy more scoring. It hasn't worked for this franchise ever.

I honestly thought the contract would be worse. Like it or not, he's the best thing to happen to this franchise in years.

Now it's up to that cigar head buffoon to not waste anymore years off his prime.

Was hoping it would be closer to 8.0 than 8.5, but hard to really complain about that considering his level of play last few years. Glad he's staying.

Yay! Unfortunately now we will have to hear about how that $8.5 million would be better spent on "scorers." I would rather spend that money on Hank than Vanek, Cammalleri, or any of the other forwards that are about to be free agents. The elite superstar forwards that make their teammates better such as Crosby, Stamkos, and Ovechkin are never going to be available. The Rangers need to draft better and make smart trades for promising forwards on ELCs - something that should be done regardless of how much Lundqvist is making.

If Cam is so godly as you say, one would think we can trade him for a scorer. Maybe someone like Crosby? I mean, this is killa'cam after all.

:dunce:

Even for Lundqvist, that's a lot of money and a lot of years. But it could've been worse and I'm glad to have him.

I'll be interested to see what happens with Callahan and Girardi now.

Here, Here! All hail The King.

This contract will allow him to outlast Sather (I hope!), so maybe he can actually get a Cup during his tenure here.

It will be so funny in the GDT's every time he let's in a goal. Hahaha, this will be hilarious.

I gotta say I'm very surprised Glen locked him up so early.

At least we know he's looking towards the future...sorta.

If true i am happy that the Rangers secured Hanks services and that he stays a Ranger his entire career. 8.5 mil is prolly higher what some of us wanted but this organisation has dished out large contracts to less deserving players.

If someone deserves it its Hank :handclap:

I am so torn. Happy to have him but I don't know if any player is worth that cap hit in the hard capped league.

I'd assume this means no Girardi next season, which stinks but he probably wasn't worth the cap hit he was going to command.

The idiots will whine. Because that's what idiots do.

The rest of the board will understand that goalies do let in goals.

This is exciting news. I feel good looking to the future knowing Hank is locked up.

i agree with this sentiment and all others like this. Other teams lock up there superstars ours just so happens to be in net. I was hoping for 8mil per but hey 8.5 is fine by me.

I dont understand why people are upset he was due for a raise and he got one. 1.7 mil is about what i expected. he would have gotten over 9 mil on the open market that is for certain.

Finally, hank could say the contract negotiations weren't weighing on him until he was blue in the face and I wouldn't believe it, finally got the monkey of his back, also good to see sather make a smart move and sign him now rather than wait till the last minute like usual

The cap is only going to go up. Richie's $6.667 will be off the books next year no matter what. Those two factors alone will completely cancel out Lundqvist's 8.5. Not to mention, it's only a 1.7 increase in what he's currently making.

He's one of the best goalies in the league, and certainly deserves to be paid as such.

Let's get this guy a cup already!

i hope so as he is not gonna be worth the money as his play will mostlikely decline or fall off a cliff in the near future.

I wonder if the contract situation has affected Henrik at all. He hasn't been bad, but he hasn't been his normal self either. Maybe with the contract out of the way now, he will be more focused.

We should all look past the sentiment and think about whether a goalie should make 8.5 mil or whether that money should be redirected for offense. A team can thrive and win a Cup with a quality but not world class elite goalie like Talbot if they are stacked in front of him.
