I'd love to see Vinni get like 15 games on one of the top two lines and power play time.
Who is he displacing?

I actually liked what I saw of him on the point, but that seems to have been about it to like his game at the NHL level. I thought he earned his way out of camp last year, but again showed that he was not able to play at the level necessary to stay with the big club. And again, there does not seem to be a spot for him. Granted, every player has to earn their way to those top 6 spots.

I don't think he'd be displacing anyone but rather get the opportunity if injuries hit...

Basically, I want to see him playing with guys who can feed him the puck with some open space. I appreciate that there are only so many prime spots on a team. But regardless, I'd like to see him occupy a top six wing for 15 games. I think he'd be good.

Sure, I get it. Just not holding my breath for him again. I was pretty disappointed last year after what I thought was a very good camp for him.

I'm not holding my breath either...and we know that camp/preseason can be very misleading since you are facing minor leaguers. but definitely would be interesting to see him get a shot in a more offensive role. the vinni that you see in NY and the vinni you see in hartford are 2 completely different players.

I don't see him as part of our future at all and he is more a top AHL guy to help develop other prospects (if we ever get forward prospects in the AHL lol). but his play so far isn't that much different from 2 of our former guys, parenteau (who broke out at 27) and Marchessault (who broke out at 26) so hope for Vinni isn't dead yet but obviously a big year for his career

I like Vinni, and I'm glad he'll be sticking around the organization. Worst case scenario is that he doesn't become an NHL player and he ends up as a top scorer for Hartford. If he does take another step in his development, he can probably turn into a solid depth forward that gets some secondary powerplay time. What he has going for him is that he's been a higher-volume shooter in his limited time here, which is something we don't really have at the moment. If he can round out his defensive game, I could see him becoming like a Colton Sceviour.

He’s just going to do the same thing he’s done in the past. Show up during Preseason then disappear as soon as the season starts.

Would rather have someone else play the 4th line.

Let's presume you are right on who is going (for this purpose, makes no difference if it's Kreider or Buch). ZBad, Buch, Kakko, Kravstov, Chytil, Howden, Panarin, Lemieux, Andersson, Strome. That is 10 names right there. There is the 4th line center, which is not going to be him. That leaves 1 spot open. I would rather have someone with some more size play the 4th line wing.

Fast?

I’m not a proponent of giving guys more minutes or more prominent roles just “to see” how he’d do. They need to show ability to generate chances for himself or his linemates even if these chances don’t get capitalized. Sometimes it doesn’t have to be anything big - move the puck crisply from the defensive zone, transfer through the neutral zone without giving up possession, forecheck and force a turnover etc. We didn’t see what happened in practice but Lettieri couldn’t even keep up on the bottom lines during games so to me there was / is absolutely no reason for a promotion unless things change for him.

Me as well. Just give him those 15 games (as we have nothing to lose) and will finally figure out if he can be numerically productive. If not......Hartford could certainly use him and yes, injuries always happen. Likey this signing. C'mon Vinny, I know you have a good shot, work hard and put the puck in the damned net! I have a special rooting interest here, c'mon Vinny, make your cousin Larry proud.

He's not a prized prospect, so he doesn't get that privilege/lengthy rope of "let's put him in that spot and see how he does." Yeah, on the power play, he's "I have a big shot and I'm not afraid to use it," but everywhere else he's a small player who doesn't play a big man's game.
