What Makes a Prospect?​

A player will be considered a prospect until he meets the following criteria:

If a prospect is a skater (forward, defenseman) and has played in 65 NHL games or more before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday; or, if a goaltender has played in 45 NHL games before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday, that player will be considered graduated to the NHL. Conversely, if a player completes the season of his 24th birthday without passing those milestones, then that player will no longer be considered a prospect by Hockey’s Future, regardless of the player’s status with his NHL club.

An NCAA player who signs his first contract at or above the age of 22 has three years to meet the above criteria (65/45), while those NCAA players that turn pro under the age of 22 will be subjected to the criteria above.

European players who sign their first NHL contract at or above the age of 22 have three seasons from the time they sign that contract to meet the above criteria. Those European players below the age of 22 that have signed a NHL contract will be subjected to the criteria in section one.

NOTE: These are general guidelines and should be followed the majority of the time but certain players may still be listed as prospects if circumstances warrant.

Still no confirmation on where Kjellberg will play this year. Rogle's U20 team still hasn't released a roster, and he's nowhere else to be found. The other speculation was that he would come play USHL for Dubuque.

Bernhardt has no home yet, either. I know no one cares but he still meets the criteria and we own his rights one more season. I almost wonder if he'll retire--the hip problems he had were supposedly pretty severe.

You're trying to drive me nuts every time you mention him, right? Ugh, I hated this pick so much. That 2015 draft was brutal for us, but then again, it was very top heavy and we didn't have a pick until the mid 2nd.

Jensen is in the KHL now so the rights don't expire. Only Lakatos and Bernhardt will have their rights expire in 2019

Right, but I'm saying in regards to being a prospect with NYR. Unofficially, I don't think he'd come over if the Rangers can't bring him back for next season.

I don't think he'll come back unless we trade his rights. This is probably the best shot a guy like him would have to make the roster; if things go according to plan it will only be more difficult to break in moving forward as we become competitive again.

Exactly. The u20 4N isn't really an indicator of who will make the team for the World Juniors. Pajuniemi and Lundkvist playeed at the Summer Showcase and now they are with their team prepping for the season. Jacob Ragnarsson made the team this time while he was not included for the Summer Showcase

if Gorton liked Jensen and wanted him to come over, then yeah he kinda failed because he could not guarantee Jensen a spot on a rebuilding Rangers team. I think Jensen did the right thing for his career by staying in KHL.

He’s going to play in the NCAA next season and playing in the CHL would screw up his college eligibility. The BCHL and a few other second tier leagues are essentially the leagues for Canadian kids who want to go the NCAA route like Turris, Makar, Newhook, etc
