Pajuniemi seems like another Teemu Pulkkinen to me tbh. He could probably translate this goal scoring to the AHL level but can't break that PP specialist threshold if he ever makes it to the NHL.

Another guy that was supposed to be really good and has that kind of a shot is Martin Frk. He could be like that, the only difference is that he's never been in NA, while Frk went to play in Halifax and stayed afterwards. The younger they come over, the more likely to stay in the NA leagues.

If Pajuniemi comes over, which at this point seems like a foregone conclusion, he's going to need relative success in the AHL pretty quickly, likely by the end of year 1 in order to think about staying.

Now, he could break from that mold and stick around in the AHL for a longer time, but if he's not sniffing the NHL by the end of his ELC, he knows he has LIIGA in his back pocket and can come back.

I really wish they would increase the maximum minor league salary in ELCs. Like make it so you can pay a guy $200,000 in minor league salary when he plays out his ELC. It would be nice because some of these European guys, either ones a team has drafted or the UDFA guys in particular, might be more inclined to stick around another year or so if they were making a decent check. The current max is like ~$70K or something on an ELC, and for the the European guys, they can make a lot more at home.

I'm sure there's a reason why teams aren't allowed to pay more in minor league salaries during the ELC. I just don't know what it is. Changing it does seem like it could be beneficial to both teams and players, though.

The problem in the MLB is that there are 50 leagues and hundreds of teams (exaggerated a bit but you get the point). Larger systems less $$$ to go around.

It is stipulated by the CBA. I just don't know why. I mean I know it would give a player more leverage in negotiations and cost teams a small amount more money. Still seems like it could be beneficial for teams though. Maybe one day they reexamine it.

You can get paid anything after the ELC(guys on 1 way contracts make more money in the minors because there’s no escrow), but when coming over from Europe and you’re not making it out of the A after 3 seasons, why are you sticking around?

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. And just because it will be fought by many cheap franchises, it can also be increased in stages. For a 20 y/o it can still be lower, but the cap should be higher for a 21 y/o signing.

Barron faced off against Kjellberg. Cornell won 4-2 and as reported last night Barron had 2 assists. Kjellberg was pointless.

Wall and UMASS Lowell lost 2-1 to Hughes and Northeastern. He stopped 18 of 20. Hughes didnt have any points.

Robertson has been playing really well of late. Very productive.

Wall is 5-5-1 in his last 11 starts with a .903 SV%. My knock on him has always been his inconsistency. His overall numbers are still really impressive, but he has definitely fallen off of late.

It's that consistency that separates goalies that make it and those that do not. Goalies tend to put it all together a bit later then other positions (with a few exceptions of course) and tend to have these consistency issues.

He should spend the next 2 seasons in the AHL and those two seasons will make or break his professional career.

None of the Rangers North American junior and collegiate prospects had games yesterday but all three CHL prospects have afternoon games today. Skinner and Gross have games at 2PM EST and Robertson has a game at 4PM EST.

Sorry I didn't post about Saturday's game. I was there and unfortunately I was sitting behind the net on the opposite side of all 4 Cornell goals. The first assist I can honestly say I didn't see at all. The second was a pretty inconspicuous pass at the blue line during a PP and the guy who shot it, got kind of lucky it went in. He also got whistled for a garbage embellishment penalty while drawing a holding call. He's really starting to use his strength for effectively with the puck and dominating guys in that way.

Kjellberg on the other hand was an interesting one since I haven't seen a lot of him this year. Pros: Solid passer, typically made the right decision in the defensive zone with an without the puck. Cons: Not a very good skater at all. Not really skilled enough at the college level to make plays by himself and he wasn't great in the offensive zone.
I think I said this before but he'll stay in school all 4 years most likely and will eventually turn into a very good college player, but I don't see him ever having a great pro career and seems destined for the ECHL.

Also Barron did go up against Kjellberg a couple times in the corners and was not even close who won the battle.

Interesting about Kjellberg. Coming out of the draft there was next to nothing written about him. One of the only things was a video with him being interviewed by a Rangers reporter where he said his best attribute was his skating. Because then watching him with Dubuque, I thought his skating sucked. It was weird. So I'm glad to see someone else watching him and coming away with the same conclusion.
