I'm more interested in our lord and savior Simon Kjellberg
All his output is against UConn and Princeton who are garbage, but the mere fact that he has 3 goals and 5 points in 8 games after having 2 goals and 5 points in 58 USHL games last year is pretty amazing. I'm going to assume he still sucks, but how great would it be if he turned into something?

Don't take this away from @Irishguy42 . He needs this. :P

In fairness either of those teams are better than any team he played last year. So it still shows good progress. I’m just excited he’s playing every game so far. Based on what we’ve read I was concerned he’d be a scratch for good portions if his freshman season.

I wonder if he he spent a vast majority of his time in the gym in the offseason which was his main issue last year. At his age that wouldn’t be surprising

Yeah that's my thing, the teams suck but it's they're still better than USHL teams. And that in three games he is outproducing his entire USHL season, that's great.

Is he like a Tim Kerr type? What’s his play style. I glean he’s big and has a hard shot.

I’m not sure he has the hands of a Tim Kerr so i’d say he isn’t a Tim Kerr type. Watched him in Stamford CT at the prospects camp. Loved what I saw. We’ll build, thick, physical, good change of direction and he could have sent a few teammates through the boards yet clearly let up.

I think he’s a very exciting prospect. Tough to say who he is like but i’d say, minus the violence yet add a few inches, he’s a little like Rick Tocchet. He can skate, pass, shoot, hit . . . lot to like IMO.

Does Morgan Barron finish all 4 years? Or does he go Pro after this season? And from there do we think he is capable of getting NHL minutes right away?

anything to get Brendan Smith out of the lineup

If he continues this great year, I would think he's a lock to go pro. Unless he didn't want to sign with us, for some reason.

I would think he'd need time I the AHL, but you never know. Some guys can just make the jump. I thought there was no way Stepan made the jump, then he's scoring hat tricks and having a great rookie season.

For those of you that follow the NCAA, how would you compare Barron to Ryan Poehling? Poehling "seemed" to have avg numbers in college, had a breakout WJC last year and made the jump to the NHL last year (played the last game of the NHL season with the Habs and had a hat trick against the Leafs that night). He would have made the Habs this year, but had a concussion in training camp and was sent to the AHL (was recently called up for a few games and sent back to the AHL the other day).

not sure why this is so difficult but brendan smith isn't in the lineup because we don't have forwards. he is in the lineup so fox and deangelo don't have to kill penalties yet. barron turning pro doesn't change that

I hope Barron stays in school at least 3 years (edit, he’s in his 3rd year. Maybe he needs another year) Phenom’s can play at any age and be successful yet so many can really benefit from an extra year of college IMO. Why rush it? Especially on a roster with so many young players already

This is his third year at Cornell.

You’re right, it’s going to be 2020.

Maybe a 4th year then. He’s got the size and looked like a much more complete hockey player in Stamford than others. He’s thicker and filled out better than so many of these other prospects

Like I mentioned before, he could have crushed a few fellow prospects into the boards yet let up in Stamford. Those prospects he let up need to further develop b/c they would never get away with that on the boards at a higher level.

Nope sorry thats an absolute bullshit excuse to have him in the lineup. A horrid excuse. Have DeAngelo kill penalties. He is a defenseman by nature. I dont want hear this shit that he is eating a forward spot just to kill penalties. Yes I know that is whats happening, but its a piss poor reason to continually play him.

I find it a bit amusing that the consensus is that Miller should go pro after this season, but there’s chatter about Barron spending a 4th year in college.

yeah, IMHO they probably both should go back

to me (i know folks disagree) no downside for Barron to play as a Sr,
but yes, NYR has recent history of turning high-end Juniors pro (McD, Fox, Skjei, ...)

Miller, who didn't have a full season last year (missed 11 of 37) , definitely should go back.
For overall development as a player and a key guy,
also because he is somewhat new to playing D,
also because that team has a really special stew of young high-end talent

another NYR reason why. - with Lindgren, and Hajek, being joined by Reunanen, and Rykov next season, the LHD rebuild queue is in great shape, not a pressing need to rush him

Then Miller and Robertson come in, in fall'21
