I'll go with Tarnstrom here for upside.

He's a bit of an unknown at this time, but if he gets a shot, and runs with it, you're potentially looking at someone in the same "role" as higher picks like Mercer, or Amirov, or even Holloway.

If he gets the ice time and experience, could be a significant riser.

It's a pleasure to be picky...but that Lindbom pick was a fail from the moment it was made.

I'm afraid Tarnstrom will fall in line with Ragnarsson as another ''son of a pro Swede' lack of value selection. I don't mind a pick flopping - it's obviously more likely than not, but the value just didn't seem there for Round 2-3.

Khodorenko and Richards are essentially mid-round fliers, I suppose it slightly off-sets the loss of value...

FWIW Edstrom is a spare forward right now, playing 2-4 minutes per night. Obviously that could change but it's where he's at. If that persists it takes a lot of the shine off of last season.

I guess add Aaltonen, Huska, Lindbom, Edstrom or Rueschhoff.
I love all the prospects, but its getting tough to sort them out.
Hard to believe there are 42 guys to keep track of ....

The challenge with Lindbom was where he was picked and his injuries since. From a talent perspective, he's solid goalie prospect. It's just a matter of keeping him on the ice.

I get people's unhappiness with taking him in the second round, and that's a valid issue, but that's one of those things beyond his control as a prospect.

As for Tarnstrom --- I kind of feel like his low-end might be more in that fourth line role that Richards' is projected for. But the upside of being a third, maybe even pushing a tweener role on the second line makes him an interesting prospect at this point of the poll.

IMO Tarnstrom has fallen far enough.

Not anything of any value left to add, but i'll go with Aaltonen I guess.

While he was serving a 5-game suspension, his team added some players to the team including Höglander and Smith. He will get his chance when eiether those loans end or players suffer injuries. The suspension ruined the start of his season unfortunately.

I saw they added players.

Still, you hope he can force his way back in. I was hoping for a bigger role, not be be squeezed out entirely.

Yeah, I was hoping he would progress and build on his performance last season. They're 8 games into the season so it's still early. What he does when he gets his chance will determine the outcome of his season.

For sure, I didn't mean to ring the alarm bells or anything. It's just frustrating because I thought he did well last year.

It does illustrate something that I think people sometimes forget, however, which is that teams do what is in their best interest (or try to) and don't give two shits about the impact it has on the New York Rangers. Like if Rogle thinks they can do better than Edstrom, they'll do that, and not care one bit about any impact on our organization.

I know people sometimes think I'm anti-Euro leagues/KHL, but I am definitely not. I do, however, advocate for guys coming over when they appear to be ready to make the transition (not suggesting this applies to Edstrom). I would much rather our organization have direct control over the player than leave it up to a different team in a different league that knows the player will be leaving and has no vested interest in their development. Of course this doesn't apply in all circumstances.

The Rangers do offer their services to a degree to help out teams that have their prospects on their teams. Last year, Västerås (Själin) and Södertälje (Henriksson) both benefited from having a Rangers prospect on their team on loan, with the Rangers offering their assistance where they could.

But, they will still (as you said) do what's in their team's best interest. These aren't feeder clubs who exist to develop prospects (like the AHL). These are professional teams trying to win, and in the case of Allsvenskan, winning and getting back to the SHL is the difference between millions and tens of millions.
