Am I reading this correctly? Brouillard's DOB is '95 making him 28 years old. He should be ineligible for prospect rankings, right?

true he is 28

finished QMJHL career in 16,
a year in minors,
3 years Canadain Uni at McGill
then resumed pro career in '20-21

Add Korczak. Had a strong CHL season. Should have a good idea what’s waiting for him in the AHL.

I included him on the list that CG is using because to me, he is no different than a random undrafted European guy like Gustav Rydahl who signs a contract at 27. I think those guys should get a year. Brouillard is old and has played in the AHL for a few years but this was his first NHL contract, and he is also a unique story in terms of his career progression.

The HF rules for prospects always had a carve out to their criteria that allowed for other guys to be considered if circumstances warrant. For me, he gets one year.

I understand a lot of people may disagree with that, and wouldn't consider him a prospect. I also wouldn't anticipate anyone voting for him, LOL.

Definitely think it’s fair to give him a couple polls.

Kinda been voting on and off here.. my list would be much different. And just to piggyback off the comments above... I feel it could've been a bit more interesting if we included some of our recent signings/acquisitions. They haven't really proven themselves at the NHL level and they're still young enough that I'd consider them prospects. Mac Hollowell is 24, Connor Mackey is 26, Leschyshyn is 24.

Honestly if we didn't go out and grab Gustafsson I think Mackey would've shared that 6 spot with Jones or whoever.. maybe he still does. He became an everyday player in Arizona. Based on the write-ups I've seen, he was expected to be in their top 6 for this season. I think the assumption has to be that the only reason he's not in Arizona is because he was a UFA and not because they didn't try to keep him. He really didn't play much of a role in Calgary. Something worth keeping in mind, this was also a team that felt they had no role for Välimäki, who promptly took on a top 4 role in Arizona and managed 34 points after being claimed off waivers. So I wouldn't say it's a death sentence that Mackey couldn't earn a role in Calgary but finally got games in Arizona. I don't think this is some sort of Strålman find or anything like that but he is someone that offers a bit of an alternative to play styles like Gustafsson and Jones. You have options for skill and finesse and options for size and physicality

yeah the Gustafsson signing concerns me precisely because of Mackey
If all other 7 likely D candidates are healthy, I expect Mackey will be the waiver guy,
(NOT including Harpur or Hollowell here, seems inevitable they will be waived, barring notable issues)

I will be hoping that he slips through waivers, as most guys do at that time of year,
as ALL teams are needed to pare down their rosters ..

as far as including the older roster candidates here, i think thats a different kind of conversation,
perhaps more apt for the Roster-Building topic than Prospects
